We were caught offguard on thinking this tour might take us out to the river. It does not. The so called canal is just a small section, so clearly the boat has limitations on distance travelled. Yes, some interesting facts about the tobacco industry, and the levered bridge at the furthest most point, but aside from that, little else. This... More

don't let this fool you. we took this "30 minute" cruise. the canal is so short that the boat driver took us into a short dead in canal, turned around, took us back to the start point, turned around and headed slowly up the short canal. It is located under many railways and highways. Not fun, not interesting and hope... More

the canal boats are are a fun ride, they are however uncomfortable. too many people, in to small a space, and jammed so tight your knees are between the knees of the person across from you. makes it difficult to turn and look at things, and difficult to take pictures. the guide narrative is quite interesting, and the scenery makes... Inexpensive and fun. For all ages. The boat is small, and moves slow, with the captain giving a historic tour.

Staying nearby and took the canal tour - $5 kids and $6 adults. About 40 minutes if history about their canals and local area. Wildlife - turtles and blue heron - were seen. Interesting facts bout the former prison, Elizabeth the spy, tobacco row and the intersection of the train tracks just some of the facts by Dave our captain.... More

We took the trip on the canal boat. It is a 40 minute ride and the guide knows a lot about Richmond and the canal but with the way the canal was rerouted in the downtown area, it is difficult to envision the canal in its heyday. It is better when the boat goes into the wider canal. The boat... More

You get to hear some interesting history. Even though I am a Richmond area native I still learned a few things. The boat ride is non-eventful and rather slow paced. If it's hot you will benefit from sitting from mid boat on back as that is the area protected from the sun. Keep in mind there are no bathroom facilities.... More

Incredible canal cruise. The tour operator was extremely knowledgeable about the historical contexts-past & present. Our 9-year-old was entertained with the boat & sights. There are tons of other sights once you get off the boat too.

The Canal Cruise was great- it was packed with historical information and we were able to see wildlife. It was fascinating to see the canal from the water. The locks and floodgates were also interesting to view and learn about. The guide was super friendly and well informed. The seating is a little crowded, but well worth the time and... More
