The Canal Cruise was great- it was packed with historical information and we were able to see wildlife. It was fascinating to see the canal from the water. The locks and floodgates were also interesting to view and learn about. The guide was super friendly and well informed. The seating is a little crowded, but well worth the time and... More

The Staff at the tour were friendly and outgoing. The operator on our tour was really knowledgeable about the history of the Richmond Canals. We spotted some wildlife along the route as the operator pointed out interesting aspects of Richmond. The high flood gates were amazing as were the four train tracks overlapping above the canal. A nice, gentle journey... More

The people were friendly and very knowledgeable. The trip was fun and informative. I think everyone learned something and who doesn't like floating around on a boat? Best for older kids. Not enough movement for the littlest people.

Who knew that Richmond had canals? We certainly didn't until we began doing a little research before our Richmond visit. The canals are a very important part of Richmond history and was a great way to learn more about the city. Our guide, Cotton, was very informative and made the history fun. Thanks Cotton! We saw a lot of historical... More

The Richmond canal system was started in 1789 by George Washington who lobbied the state government to build the canals to connect the harbors in Richmond since this was an important industrial center. This cruise departs on the hour from the Turning Basin at the foot of Virginia Street in the Shockoe Slip area. This 45 minute tour is chock... More

It was a very informative and interesting trip. I would defiantly recommend to anyone but maybe leave small children at home. There was a small baby screaming the entire ride and made it hard to hear the tour guide. However, what I did hear was great. Learned a lot about the local and US history.

My husband and I recently went on the Richmond Canal Cruise and had the pleasure of being on Charles Hibbler's boat. He was awesome, very personable and so passionate about the historical content he was sharing. The cruise was enjoyable and very informative. Charles is a rock star and shared the message that we are all brothers and sisters and... More

This 40-45 minute ride in the river canal was relaxing, informative and quite entertaining. We had people from all ages in our boat. We saw ducks, geese, turtles and a blue heron. Our guide shared the history of the canal and Richmond properties along the way. The ticket was only $6 for an adult, so well worth the time and... More
