A great family outing destination with something for various ages. The arboretum had an interesting variety of plants with an assortment of orchids. There is a great children's area with a tree house, sand play area, a water play area and a games/puzzles area. On my visit in early May, roses, peonies, irises were in bloom. We ate lunch the... There are so many things to see! You will find a variety of gardens, water features and statuary. At every turn there is something beautiful to peruse. Flowers are blooming, children are playing and more than a few photographers are capturing a special image to save and share. I have visited several times and each visit is as delightful as... More

I have traveled to Richmond to see my kids for a few years. Last weekend we visited the botanical gardens. The gardens are definitely a hidden gem. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous! A fun day for all of us (age 1 1/2 - 63). Seasonally they have many celebrations of flowers. There is a beautiful indoor exhibit of butterflies in... More

Unfortunately, we were there on a miserable day. The weather was gray and drizzling, and the sky was threatening. We basically walked around with umbrellas. We did enjoy the indoor Butterfly exhibit with over 1000 butterflies. Very beautiful and informative. I would highly recommend this attraction. The price was reasonable...only $11 for us as seniors. I would love to go... More

Now I wouldn't describe myself a horticultural but I do like a spot of gardening. The grounds are nice, well maintained and the staff are friendly. I go to gardens like this to get inspiration for my own garden however on this occasion I was indifferent. Now don't get me wrong it is a pleasant walk, it has some nice... More

We spent an enjoyable walk in warm weather around these gardens after a hectic day at my son's wedding. The gardens are well laid out with many different areas to explore including lakes and a large wooden tree house, there were special places for children and even rocking chairs in the tree house which I did try. There are places... More

Just about every flower, plant, and tree in this enormous and immaculately landscaped garden is helpfully labeled. We were especially bowled over by the orchids (spectacular, makes it easy to understand why people go into orbit about orchids). There are lovely curving paths, manicured streams, and tons of people out for a pleasant stroll. For kids, they have an area... More

Gardens are always of interest for us, and our jaunt to Richmond had to include the Lewis Ginter site. The space is laid out with both formal and informal beds, with a conservatory for the tropicals (and butterflies!). A generous portion of the gardens is designed for children, a part of the public too many horticultural sites ignore. During our... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the garden, and it was well worth the admission. The grounds are large and beautiful. We were there with a toddler and the paths were great for strollers...and he (and we) LOVED the children's garden! It was a fantastic place for him to explore and walk around. We also really enjoyed the Japanese garden.... More
