In this part of Sicily, this Reserve is definitely a place you must see.
One of the reason being that Tonnara di Scopello has become a too expensive place for what it offers (just looking at the location of the last the scene of Ocean 12 is not worth 8 euros per person).
You can visit this reserve by walking all the way from the Southern Entrance till the Northern one (or the other way around) and this will take you more than 3 hours, depending on your fitness and pace.
You can also simply reach the closest beach from the chosen entrance, whether Southern or Northern, which will be much shorter and therefore easier.
Especially in Summer when the heat between 10am and 4pm might be too high and even dangerous if you do the walk without a hat, sun screen and especially 2 liters of water at least (good walking shoes are also required of course).
I'd recommend strongly, if you're not fit enough, getting from the Southern entrance and walk 20 minutes till Cala Capreria which is literally a hidden gem.
Just check the weather before to enjoy the incredible blue shades of the sea, and try to avoid weekends, otherwise it'll be overcrowded.
On the other side of the North-West part of Sicily you'll have Erice which is also really worth your time.
These 2 attractions should not be missed.

The park has free parking - we walked from the southern end since it was easier for us to get to. It’s 5€ to get in and they give you a useful map. Toilets are at the first museum - about a 10 minute walk from the entrance. We did the lower walk, although there is a more challenging high route as well. It’s around 7km to the other end but you can turn round when you like. Views are lovely and there were loads of wildflowers when we visited. In the little coves the sea is turquoise in colour. Tip - you need good footwear since the paths are rough in lots of places.

Best get there early as the main car park fills up fast and the next car park is a bit of a walk away. Wear good shoes, it can be done in flip flops but it will slow you down and the ground is rocky and not suitable for flip flops. The walk is not flat but goes up and down.
There is no water on the route so take loads because other than the lack of water there is no shade! In the summer I can imagine the walk being super hot and dusty.
We walked just over half way and then went back to the car. If you want to swim the beaches are well below the path and quite small. Lots of people walking and swimming in May.
Basically if you are heading this way take as much water as you can carry!

If you are not resistant to brutal heat you can skip it, it’s not so amazing. Mini palmas are special but most probably you will not see all these unique animal species and plants mentioned in guides thus I would suggest you to go to the first beach (Cala della Capreria). We continued today to the second (Cala Berretta) and it’s far if it is so hot. Cala Berretta is nice small beach, fishes are lovely but it was not worth it. Capreria is much more beautiful to me. I like flora and fauna but it was like walking in the desert today and sea is far below the path. You cannot refresh yourself in the sea most of the way, there is no shaddow or drinking water, in fact no water at all. We knew it and we were prepared. However, I would advise you to go to Zingaro in the afternoon in the summer (after four o’clock) and no pressure to go further than to the first beach. In other seasons I can imagine that you can enjoy hiking through Zingaro.

Nearest beach from the entrance is about a 15-20 minute walk. Very refreshing and crystal clear water. It does get busy so just keep that in mind. I have read that if you walk further down..there are other beaches that are less crowded. 5 euro entrance fee.

Visited today. Closed due to a fire. Won’t be open again until the spring. Looks beautiful though so we’re gutted. Very frustrating that that the Visit Sicily Info website doesn’t have this information updated on their website. I’m sure it would prevent a lot of unnecessary trips.

Remenber to contact the local tourisme agencies BEFORE visiting Zingaro. The reserve is closed due to fire until spring 2021, but that does not appear on the officiel website for Zingaro. I went 350 km to do the hike, which was not possible.

Enchanting Sicily Island. This is the "Riserva Dello Zingaro", in the Trapani area. A protected area with a wonderful sea.

In April, the coastal trail in La Reserva Zingaro was beautiful. The temperature was around 70 degrees with a nice gentle breeze blowing off the ocean. The trail was not crowed at all, unless you count the little green lizards. I also encountered a man on horseback. In places the trail is only wide enough for one person, so their balancing act was really something. I paid 3 euros to enter the reserve from the San Vito Lo Capo side, and it took me about 2 1/2 hours to walk to the Scopello side even stopping to take pictures. It seemed to be much faster on the way back. There are a few trails that hike up the hill also, and I suggest wearing boots for those. I just wore my Teva's for the coastal trail. From what I can tell, there are at least two beaches along the trail and a few rocky landings. You have to hike down to all of them from the main trail. There are picnic areas at both beginnings to the trail (San Vito & Scopello). The trail is well marked and a map is provided when you pay.
