The staff puts great effort which obviously need to be commanded, but the format needs to be revisited. We were recommended this tour as nice to do with kids and for the first two hours it is, after which it becomes unbearably boring. 5 hours sitting on a slow “train” are really too much, in a way it’s understandable qs the island is big so it takes time to get to the jail up north but there is no time to really explore the island, hang out, walk around - it’s basically a stop and go with 15 min breaks. The final stop for swimming was at a beach that was nothing to write home about, water full of seaweed (not the staff’s fault of course), somehow it’s a natural park where it is forbidden to litter in e take anything out but the beach was full of broken glass under the seaweed and I got my toe cut quite deeply, luckily my kids didn’t get it. Again the staff does all they can to engage but would not recommend this tour - at its exorbitant price (€65 adults, €45 kids, plus €5 tax) I don’t think it’s worth it. Had we known that you could just ferry there and walk around or hire bikes, we would have done that.

I went on the excursion to Asinara with Mare e Natura in May. We arrived at the island by boat, then got on the little tourist train that makes several stops in the most important parts. The woman in the office when I booked was friendly and helpful, and the guide was clearly very knowledgeable and prepared. An on-board pasta lunch was included in the tour price, and it was decent and filling.

Unfortunately, due to worsening weather and sea conditions, we had to turn back halfway through the tour and were not able to go as far as Cala d'Oliva. Obviously this wasn't the company's fault, and the decision was made for everybody's safety. What we did see, including some beautiful landscapes, the Fornelli prison, and of course the famous albino donkeys, was wonderful.

The tour was in Italian only, and I was the only non-Italian in the whole large group. I know the language well and am always keen to practise, so it suited me just fine, but those who don't speak it should check whether the company offers anything in other languages.

We booked our trip with a different agency to explore the Asinara parc, but unfourtunately took the wrong boat. In Stintino before we went on the boat, we ask the personal from trenino verde if it's the right boat and they just let us pass and said it's no problem. But as we arrived on the island, they didn't wanted to let us go and charged us a much too high price for the cruise. They just took advantage of the unorganised situation on the harbour in Stintino to take money from the tourist, instead of helping them. Unfriendliest people I met on my whole stay in Sardegna!
