About
The underground village is a section of the Punic necropolis of Sulky, the ancient Phoenician-Punic name of Sant'Antioco. Starting from the eighteenth century, with the repopulation of the island of Sant'Antioco, numerous Punic tombs were used as dwellings (is gruttas) by the poorest classes of the country (is gruttaius).

very interesting and exceptional value, Incredible to think people actually lived in these 'rooms' in the late 20th century

These ancient tombs were lived in up to the 1960s by those too poor to own a house. Tours are run from the Ethnographical museum next door. The place is interesting hence the 4/5, but the tours are only in Italian so much remains a mystery.

These are simple caves used as dwellings by poor people up to 100 years ago. We were shown around by a guide who attempted to describe some features in English but the information available was limited. Still worth a visit combined the fort and Museo Etnografico
