Much of Cagliari’s fascinating history is hidden beneath the modern city, and with this tour you can explore the warren of caves, tunnels, and crypts that date back centuries. Head underground with a guide to visit the crypts of Santa Restituta and Sant'Efisio, as well as the Salesian School Tunnel used to shelter students during WWII bombing raids and today lit only by candles.

I am not entirely sure on the exact scientific precision of the title...but I know there is calcium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water. It is truly a remarkable experience be able to see the result of millions of years of continuous formation of stalactites and stalagmites. I think it was the first cave that I saw where it was possible to see the effect of the colours on the water when the seawater is mixing with freshwater. Beautiful! I would suggest to go to Cala Luna on the same boat trip.

You can only come to the cave by boat. We were a party of 10 people so we had rented a private trip to see all the beaches. We ended with a visit to the cave. Good guidance in English. If you are visiting this coastal route then a visit to the cave is recommended.

The visit to the, so called, "Sea Oxen Grottoes" is simply exciting. A unique experience. The marine cavities are named after the Monk Seals, which used to live the place many years ago and called by the locals "sea oxen", for their shape and behaviour. The visit is accesible to everybody by boat and is guided by experts. The stalactites, the stalagmites, the colours all around, the water sound, even the silence, if you have the chance to hear it: everythings offers an extraordinary moment close to the acient geological formation of the earth and the power of the nature.

Beautiful caves! Worthwhile to visit! Sadly it was not allowed to take photos. This was mentioned after arrival at the caves. I would have liked to know this in advance, since I would have left my camera at home then. If there would have been pictures available for sale, I would have bought them. This would have pleased a lot of minds I guess.
