Its situation and the white building stone against the blue sea is stunning. The interior is a contrast to the normal Catholic Churches as it is plain which allows the architecture to speak for itself. Compared to the Norman cathedrals in the UK it is tall and light but has the same style.

I returned once again to visit this extraordinary place, the cleanliness of its forms, internal and external, are of extraordinary beauty. At the moment its interiors are partially undergoing maintenance, which does not allow you to enjoy the apse and its incomparable window overlooking the sea. If you are in the area it is in any case worth a visit.

In Piazza Duomo, the Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, also known as San Nicola Pellegrino, stands out.

The beautiful Cathedral, isolated in the center of an immense square, has an even more particular charm because it is practically on the sea.

Splendid church, imposing and positioned near the sea, with large free spaces such as to be visible both from the sea and from the land, especially thanks to the bell tower. Medieval characteristic of Puglia, inside the women's gallery a characterizing environment of Romanesque churches. The light color enhances it both from the blue of the sea and from the blue of the sky.

Also known as San Nicola Pellegrino; National Monument; Minor Basilica. Built on the site of a previous church of the fourth century and later on that of Santa Maria della Scala inside which a Chapel was dug to house the relics of San Leucio (visitable): work began in 1099, in the Norman period and the stone of Trani was used. It represents one of the most significant examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture and the largest of the Cathedrals of Puglia. Majestic exterior, on the sea, suggestive interior. Free admission.

We caught the only closing day in the whole year!!!!!!!!
And we had done 800 km to see it!!!!
We hadn't thought of calling the same day and when we arrived we found a small sheet on the side door. We phoned and were told it was closed for extraordinary cleaning for an event the next day.
........
Despite the impossibility to visit it inside we were very much outside to admire the majesty and magic that gives thanks to its location.
An absolute masterpiece that unfortunately we have not seen inside.

Shameful! this morning May 15th the cathedral was partially open due to a wedding (curious to know who the bride and groom were, to prevent tourist visits) so the tower "opened" at 3.30pm, after six hours of waiting the cash register finally opens, the The employee tells me he doesn't accept debit cards, I prepare 50 euros and also tell them stories...
"I'm sorry I don't have change, go to the bar to change" crazy!!! no I can't stay in a cathedral, they allow beggars to annoy tourists they let ABSOLUTELY unauthorized people give explanations and they don't accept debit cards, they could have made us pay at the exit or find a solution since I had pointed out that we had been there since the morning , naturally we left Trani, having resolved the doubt of the lack of tourists in this desolate place, with more attention to the newlyweds than to tourism.......

Beautiful cathedral in a seaside town that surprised me by the cleanliness despite the proximity to the port and several bars. The light and white of the stone remain impressed in the eyes and mind.. I reached the cathedral taking a beautiful walk from the Villa Comunale along the port and the premises until you get to the cathedral and its beautiful square seems to be one with the sea and sent to dream and fantasize. Tappa secondo me necessaria!!

The magnificent cathedral of Trani, has a location that makes it one of the most famous in the world. Perched on a small strip of land on the Adriatic Sea, made of clear limestone, provided by the generous quarries of the place, it is the sentinel of one of the most important maritime cities of Puglia, and is an excellent example of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Must see, day and night.

How can you not give or give an evaluation to a work of art! Stunning construction exceptionally located. A mixture of Gothic and Romanesque styles. Kept in excellent condition, it is currently partly undergoing restoration work. Simple interiors that awaken the admiration of visitors. Crypts and thousand-year-old frescoes compete with the wonder of being inside the bell tower right under the bells from where you can admire the beauty of nature and creation in which it blends perfectly! Beautiful!
