My kids (13 and 15) and I rented Kayaks here to take on the Charles River. My daughter had a single and my son and I shared one. It was so easy to get to, very chill vibe, and was great to be on the water. Perfect experience with teens! We rode Bluebikes there and back from the Boston Public Garden area where our hotel was. Loved this!

Paddled up the Charles from the historic boathouse in Auburndale in 3 kayaks with friends - just gorgeous. The happiest way to spend a day - especially in covid. The nicest and helpful staff I've ever encountered!

FUN! and who isn't looking for safe fun?!?

This 1.5 hour cycle boat was a blast. Intimate atmosphere on the boat with comfy bike seats. Boat only has seats 16. We pedaled lightly here and there. You don’t have to go all out like you are at a soul cycle class. We just relaxed and chatted with other guests. Staff is very friendly. We brought our own wine and snacks on the boat. I will definitely go again the next time I have out of town guests.

Soo first off kayaking was 5 star experience and it's a great location. Easy to get to by the red line and it was great to be able to pay by the hour. Though 3 star customer service as they were not helpful whatsoever. No instructions and abrupt. If we hadn't been kayaking before we would have been totally lost and in fact the couple behind us I had no idea how to paddle and were struggling in the river. Come on guys he more helpful and check in with your clients.

Great experience with this company. They have everything you need for a great unguided trip on the river. They made sure we were well fitted with life jackets and helped us in and out of boat. We wanted a canoe but they said it was too windy, and once out on the river we were glad they made us take the kayak--it would have been very difficult in a canoe! This company knows what it's doing; we had a great experience and would do it again.

I've been to the Kendall Square location twice now - once last year and once this year. I had the same pleasant experience both times! They accept credit cards (huge plus), have dry bags you can rent for a dollar, and have good equipment as far as I know. I rented a one-person kayak both times and had a lot of fun!

They have you take a quiz before you get on the water - basic, common sense questions to ensure your safety. Then you hand over the quiz to the staff, present a photo ID (if you're going in a group, only one person needs to have an ID), and you're good to go. When you proceed to the dock they give you a life jacket, hand you the paddle, help you into the kayak/canoe/what-have-you and you're off! If it's your first time, you can ask them for a basic "what do I do to move forward" and they're happy to give you a quick lesson.

It's in a really convenient location, right next to a bunch of places you can go to grab dinner or drinks afterwards. Definitely a must-do activity for the summer if you're in the area. Fabulous views of the Boston skyline are an added plus. Great upper body workout too! I know I'm going to do it again!

Our party of 6 arrived in the early afternoon to rent 3 two-person kayaks. Free parking Is available just above the area where the boats are put-in. We had no problem finding a parking place...and it was a Saturday in July!
There were a handful of people ahead of us but this is a very efficient process. I am figuring we were in our boats and on the river in about 15 minutes. We were out for about 90 minutes.
The river was very calm with little current as far as we could tell. You head-out under a sizeable bridge which is pretty cool and then off you go up the Charles.
The juxtaposition of the river and the city is hard to get over. There we were looking at water fowl and small islands and wild flora along the riverbank and yet ... there was the city.
I highly recommend that you try this if you can. I understand there are 3 spots along the river where rentals are available.

If you're looking for something fun to do during the summer, you should definitely check out Charles River Canoe & Kayak. The kayaking is pretty easy, and there are also options to rent a canoe or a stand-up paddleboard.

Furthermore, if you really enjoy kayaking on the Charles, they also offer season passes which gives you unlimited rentals!

Having just had our plans to go biking along the Charles on a wonderful, warm, sunny Memorial Day shot by Hubway (they don't rent to families with kids intending to bike together), we sat on the riverbank at the Charles wondering what to do, when our 12-year-old daughter searching the web on her iPhone found the "paddle Boston" website. They actually answered the phone when we called, told us that our whole family (including dogs if we had them) were welcome, no experience required, no special deposit, rental fees being a very reasonable $20 / hour / kayak. We were pretty skeptical, but our cab from Harvard to Kendall Squares already knew the place - there were dozens of happy folks standing around renting kayaks and paddling off into the Charles. The staff were extremely efficient, friendly, helpful, there were maybe a dozen friendly kids at every step of the way, from sign-in, to fitting you with life jackets, to putting you into kayaks, to hauling you out of the river, taking your equipment, and processing payment at the end. The folks were friendly, efficient and great!

Paddling on the Charles was a little eerie at first - the waves and continuously changing winds took a little getting used to and paddling under Longfellow Bridge in the wake of a Duck Boat was a little weird, however once we got over our inhibitions we relaxed and had a really great time. The views were awesome - Longfellow Bridge from underneath, the skyline, we paddled once around the Community Boating islands at the Charles T-Stop, I paddled with our 9-year-old son, my wife with our 12-year-old-daughter, we were all thrilled and bubbling with excitement when we were done, in addition to having some pretty unique photos.

In short, this is good clean family fun (or fun for singles or non-families too, including one fellow who seemed to have taken his dog out for a ride), that's really, really fun. The folks at Charles River Canoe & Kayak make the process painless and efficient, it's pretty cheap, the folks are really nice, just go kayak on the Charles and have some fun!!

This past 4th of July, my brother, my fiance, our dog, and I canoed the Charles to watch the fireworks. It... was... spectacular !! A definite must-do. They asked we bring a 100' rope and anchor so we brought at 25lb cinder block. We didn't need the rope since they tied their rope to our anchor for us. When we anchored where we wanted to watch the fireworks, the wind kept pushing the boat back. We assume it was because the rope they tied our anchor to was a little short. Otherwise, it was an amazing experience! The staff was incredibly friendly as well. It was our first time canoeing the Charles for July 4th but we will definitely do it again next year.
