The volcano could be seen from the road but the top third was hidden by clouds. The visitor center was closed but the signs outside gave a brief history which was interesting.

Great to see the volcano that caused all the disruption. Beautiful setting and you can see it for miles around.

Surprisingly stoked that I came here! I loved it. If you can afford one stop on the way around, it's this one. Learn about the eruption and its effects through the personal journey of the family, only to be served by them on the way...More

Who can forget the chaos caused by the volcano "that I shall fail to pronounce even though our guide made it so 'easy' to remember" in 2010. A worthwhile stop to watch the film of the eruption and the damage it caused and especially to...More

Watch the shortish (20 minutes or so) video that features a local farming family whose lives are inextricably linked to this volcano as their farm sits literally at the bottom of the mountain.

Given that this place is just up the road from Skogafoss, which is one of the main tourist attractions, you'll almost certainly drive right past it at some point. And it's well worth popping in. It's only a tiny place and their main attraction is...More
