The volcano could be seen from the road but the top third was hidden by clouds. The visitor center was closed but the signs outside gave a brief history which was interesting.

Great to see the volcano that caused all the disruption. Beautiful setting and you can see it for miles around.

Surprisingly stoked that I came here! I loved it. If you can afford one stop on the way around, it's this one. Learn about the eruption and its effects through the personal journey of the family, only to be served by them on the way...More

Not all that much to see or do here. Mainly just a place to view the history of the volcano and it's eruption.

to get a real feel for the devastation a volcano causes when it erupts you need to visit this site. A video explains what volcanos are in the area & the threat they pose. The attraction has some interactive stations that give you the chance...More

Who can forget the chaos caused by the volcano "that I shall fail to pronounce even though our guide made it so 'easy' to remember" in 2010. A worthwhile stop to watch the film of the eruption and the damage it caused and especially to...More

The family has recorded a video which depicts the last eruption, the aftermath and their personal/ community determination to go on. Afterwards the wife was available to answer any questions. Well done! It was heart warming to learn their story. Definitely worth a visit!!!

This stop is well worth it! Be sure to watch the 20minute ish movie that features a local farming family whose lives were linked to the eruption in 2010of the volcano behind their farm. The story and photos are spell binding. You can also see...More

Watch the shortish (20 minutes or so) video that features a local farming family whose lives are inextricably linked to this volcano as their farm sits literally at the bottom of the mountain.

Given that this place is just up the road from Skogafoss, which is one of the main tourist attractions, you'll almost certainly drive right past it at some point. And it's well worth popping in. It's only a tiny place and their main attraction is...More

Self-drive day tour of South Coast from Reykjavik (6 Replies)
Will be in Iceland in May. Will be renting a car, and want to do a day trip to the South Coast, which will include stopping at Seljalandsfoss, Eyjafjallajokull Visitor Centre, Glacier hike on Solheimajökull Glacier(would meet a 1:00 tour by 12:30pm, which is scheduled to last 3 hours total including 1 1/2 hours walk on the glacier), Skogafoss with hike (a couple of hours). My question is in what is the suggested order to do this with driving times making sure that we are at the glacier...More

Are you planning to return to Reykjavik afterwards? Or are you sleeping in Vik or elsewhere that night?
