We stumbled upon Gunnuhver while exploring the Reykjanes area by car. Well worth a quick visit; if the weather permits, spend more time exploring. You won't be disappointed.

The place is so much better than the other Geysir spots, because it is not touristy at all. Rent a car and go to check this out !

We decided to do the circle around the peninsula south of the airport (near Blue Lagoon) and this was stop two. The landscape is eerie. But a different eerie than the black lava rocks earlier on the route. Here the ground is muddier and bubblier...More

We took a gold circle trip tour and we came here the smell is vile but watching the geysers erupt was spectacular. We watched it several times as was only about 3 mins per eruption. Definitely a must do as its spectacular to watch

Its an amazing experience to watch the geysir go off every 5 mins. They have developed well mark trails to go around the place.

Gunnuhver Hot Springs are located ont he pennisula just south of the Blue Lagoon. The whole region is bubbling and steaming with the heat, and there is an interesting story linked to the site regarding the family that moved there to exploit the spring for...More

We visited the Geysir as part of the Golden Circle tour, unfortunately we only had about 40 minutes which we didn’t feel like was long enough. We spent a fair amount of time in the gift shop but I’d advise to save and make the...More

Not to miss when visiting Reykjanes peninsula. Boiling mud pools, sulphur scent, etc... You can easily believe the ghost of a witch lives here.

These are a totally different hot springs down on the southern peninsula (impossible to bathe in). I believe you are thinking of the Blue Lagoon. Shuttle buses run frequently from the airport. Just Google Blue Lagoon... More

What do you do after landing @ 4:25 AM? (11 Replies)
Hi and Happy New Year. I will land in 2nd week of March and seems the sunrise is not until 8 AM. Let's say the customs and immigration takes about 1 hour. Wandering around till buying a sim card and renting a car another 1 hour. I won't have any checked in bags. So let's say, I can be out by 6:30 AM. I won't be able to check in the hostel till the afternoon (I haven't asked if they will allow me check so early and I doubt they do without charging an extra day). I was thinking to start...More

Happy New Year! I've just booked my second trip to Iceland, hope all dates are ok considering I've been drinking prosecco. Indeed, bridge between continents, Gunnuhver, outer pools of the Blue Lagoon but also Krysuvik-Seltun and you can wander around Reykjavik (if your hostel is in Reykjavik) or hike in Reykjadalur (if jet lag permits).

Reykjanes Peninsula (4 Replies)
Hello! We plan on visiting the Reykjanes Peninsula before heading for the airport. The itinerary I have decided upon is: - Kleifarvatn - Hopsnes Lighthouse and shipwrecks - Gunnuhver Hot Springs - Bridge between continents - Viking World - Gardur lighthouses and folk museum Is this doable in 5.5 hours or so? Also, is there anything not worth on the list or anything nice I haven't added? Thank you in advance for your answers!
