We took the Reykjanes peninsula tour and found it to be excellent. The tour included the amazing lava fields of the peninsula, the bridge between two continents, two hot springs areas, volcano craters, caving in a lava tube and views of dramatic coastline. These were all worth seeing and the scenery in between was stunning. Lunch was served in a typical icelandic house in Grindavik and included information about the history of the area and Icelands 13 santas. Our guide was friendly and informative. The tour is a family company and is very well organised, well equiped and flexible. We had plenty of time to see as much or little of each location as we wished. The jeep was very comfortable and we were supplied with warm overalls that kept us warm and comfortable even in January. For caving we were also given hard hats and lamps. We were collected at our accommodation in the morning and returned there 5-6hrs later. We also had the option to end the tour in the blue lagoon if we desired.

I took the "2 in 1" tour with Volcano Tours to The Golden Circle and the South Shore, as I didn't have that much time in Iceland and really didn't want to spend it on a coach full of people. Aiki was a great tour guide, we saw Eyjafjallajökull (we also saw Hekla on our way), several waterfalls, the impressive glacier in Sólheimajökull, the black sand beach, and all the "Golden Circle" sights. I highly recommend this tour although the cost is a bit high, it's worth it.

Fantastic Day Tour of South Shore & Golden Circle With Extra Stops. Great Family Run Business. Felt really safe with (Clint) our driver not his real name but couldn't pronounce his real name. The weather conditions were pretty icy but he still managed to get us to all the attractions safely and he really knew his stuff.
It is quite an expensive tour but realy is worth the extra for the comfort of a Luxery Jeep, and you do certainly get to see places a coach can't access.
The Glacier visit was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! a must if you visit Iceland.

The people are very nice and collection from our hotel in Keflavik was on time. We paid nearly €100 each for this private jeep 'Tour' to see the northern lights. It wasn't a great evening but we were happy enough to go out in the jeep as we thought we'd be taken to a remote location which in itself would be fun. We were literally brought 10 min from our hotel, up a lay-by just off the main road. There was loads of light pollution, and the lights made a very brief appearance (nobody's fault). We had a car rented and went out ourselves every night after that. Complete waste of time and rip off

I really wish I could give this tour a better rating because the people who run the company are so nice, however this is just really not a good value at all. The tour is fine, we had a nice enough day, however it is GROSSLY overpriced. The guide is not a guide at all, but really just a driver. We paid 28,900 kronas for what was basically a day in the back of a Toyota SUV with suspension problems (she ended up bruised and I ended up with a sore back). On top of that, the place they take you for a lunch break (which is not included in the cost) has an extremely small selection of very unappetizing food. The final straw for me was when they took us to the volcano visitor center to watch a movie and we had to pay for the movie ourselves.
While they do take you to some interesting places, there is absolutely no reason why the tour should cost this much. I am actually considering contacting the tourism bureau about the price gauging.

scheduled a tour to explore the underground lava tubes and blue lagoon. Áki lead the tour and was just perfect. he is extremely knowledgeable - patient and has an absolute gift for bringing the history of iceland to life. he clearly knew the historical highlights as well as all the interesting side stories and significance - the geology - everything - and really helped bring iceland and all its wonders to light. crawling around in the underground dormant(ish) volcano caves was wild and a must try experience. the blue lagoon was gorgeous and fun and the massages and bar in the water definitely a plus. make sure you call volcano tours while you are in iceland - beautiful and perfect day!

If I could give this tour a 'good' then I would as it certainly wasn't average but it wasn't worthy of a 'very good' score. First the good:

Luxury jeep; we were the only ones on our tour so it was quite a personal experience. Saw amazing sights, we did the Golden Circle and South Shore which were amazing to see and do as we got to see a lot in one day (10 hours). Our guide was very friendly and chatted to us about loads of different things and told us great facts about Iceland in the jeep so we were never bored. Pick up and drop off from your hotel too. We really did have a lovely day!

However...it is quite an expensive do and to us we didn't feel like we got a good service. Our tour guide chatted to us loads in the jeep but when we arrived at each destination he left us to our own devices and let us explore some of the sights on our own. At times we didn't even know where we were and would have liked to have known more about what we were seeing, but we didn't have a guide to talk to this about. So it didn't feel like a tour but an expensive taxi service. And some times when he did join us out of the jeep we felt awkward like when wandering on the black beaches (south shore), where it was quite an empty environment there seemed to be no need to have a guide with us, he could have seen us from the jeep.

We did get lunch however and did get on with our guide. I think for a couple this isn't a tour for you; unless you end up with another group. I think perhaps for a big group (4-6) this would be an ideal tour. A shame for us really as we had such high hopes for the tour, but they do provide a good service which is not to be snubbed at.

We saw some great sights, had a nice comfortable time in the Jeep and enjoyed the day. They were also very helpful with the transfer to the airport from the Blue Lagoon, which gave us extra time there and allowed us to make the most of every moment
The tour had some great highlights, especially for our son, the jeep parking in the middle of a volcano crater, being allowed to collect some lava sample, caving into a lava tube and going to the Blue Lagoon.
We also went to the small fishing town of Grindavik which was interesting as we had only seen Reyjkavik. Coffee at the tour office was nice, with homemade cakes and pancakes. The fact its a family run firm has a nice feel to it, and the Matriach told us lots of history about the house they had renovated to use as an office. She also told our son the story of the Icelandic Santa Clauses and showed him the puppets of them she had. They were both very good with children.
In conclusion, a very personal tour,( it's partly on the families land) very helpful and accommodating and you get to see a different side to Iceland.

We went to Reykjavik a week ago for a short break and were hoping to see the Northern Lights and boy did we! We spent a good while choosing our tour guide as we wanted a more personal experience/ comfy ride so we decided on a jeep tour. Volcano tours were by far the best value for money in the area. The very pushy sales assistant in the Tourist Information centre tried to persuade us to book with a more expensive operator as he said that they would have more cars (ie better chance of a second trip) and be more friendly but we stuck to our guns and i'm so glad we did. This is a family run business and it shows, the tour guides were extremely warm and friendly and very knowledgeable with interesting stories to tell which is welcome when standing in a very cold field for hours on end! They offered delicious hot chocolate, offered extra warm clothes and even let me sit in the car for a while to charge my camera and when the cold was a little too much for me. They took us out twice and on the second night we had a glorious showing of the Aurora Borealis. We managed to capture this on camera as our guide set up a tripod for us and advised on camera settings - he even charged our camera when the battery went low. For the cherry on top, he took a picture of the whole group with the lights in the back so we all had a copy which is being blown up and put on a wall at home. I can' t recommend these guys enough - extraordinary value for money.

Jeep tours taken Sep 2014: 1) Volcano Garden 2) Golden Circle & South Shore. Both tours were exceptional in terms of sight coverage, the guide's knowledge and the company's personal tour add-ons (for example, homemade scones and coffee while visiting the oldest house in Grindavik and hearing about Icelandic history and cultural traditions...including elves). These tours were highlights to our trip to Iceland. They were relaxing, entertaining, informative and resulted in some very nice memories of Iceland. Unfortunately, we had pre-paid with two other tour companies prior to visiting Iceland and ended up being disappointed with these tours based on our very positive experience with volcanotours.is.
