Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

Our organization has the pleasure of using the old statehouse for our conferences for many years now. It is a beautiful building rich with history and stories to tell. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The contrast between the old and the new statehouse is striking. Definitely worth opening that big door and peeking inside.

We loving taking this tour. Its like stepping back in time, moves you to try and live the time that Lincoln actually was here. You can just feel how great the place was and still is. Thanks Springfield.

I wasn't aware of the Old State Capital but I'm glad I found it. Very well maintained and full of such history. Seeing the room which Lincoln was viewed by thousands after he died was solemn yet inspiring. The signs throughout gave much history. It's free, but they encourage you to make a donation which I did of course.

If you love history (like I do) Old State Capitol historic site is not to be missed. My husband and I spent a delightful morning touring this beautiful building. I tip my hat to the volunteers for their wealth of information and dedication in keeping this open. While the new Capitol is shock and awe. The old Capitol is character... More

Seemed restored accurately to the time period in which Lincoln served in the Legislature of Illinois and felt the historicity of the desks and the public gallery for citizens to view in the proceedings of that period!

I actually think this is worth the stop because it is a cool building with lots of beautiful antiques. The House of Rep room is all set up for business so that was neat, and just to know that Lincoln worked there was cool. They also have a flag that was actually carried in the Civil War, which is pretty... More

If you are downtown and have the time to see the Old State Capital it gives you a comparative to the new Capital building. If you do go take the guided tour.

Our guide was excellent! He took us on a tour of the entire building, pointing out important artifacts, such as maps and original furniture along with so much informative history and information.

$5.00 is the suggested donation. I enjoy history so I really enjoyed this. It's in the area of the Lincoln library and museum. It was easy to find. We thought it was closed until we opened the door. We found several of the attractions like that.

The whole state building has been restored and is very interesting. We enjoyed walking through the rooms Abraham once had long ago. A lot of history is in Springfield
