Our project of nature preservation and eco-friendly tours into Vigðelmir lava cave has ended. This page remains for data preservation. Vidgelmir lava cave is the largest of all caves in Iceland. The family in Fljotstunga farm has protected and taken care of it for 5 generations. We offer 90 min. guided tours 4 times daily during from May throughout September. The rest of the year tours are available upon previous request. With these tours we inform guests about the preservation of the cave, its archeological spaces and the Ice Elves that inhabit it during winter.

This was a very interesting place and cool experience but was really very dangerous. Only people with excellent balance and eyesight should even attempt this tour. The cave is wonderful but most people should not even attempt to visit.

The tour takes you to a cave that is very impressive. There are not monster trucks involved, and no fancy equipment such as elevators, stairlifts, etc. Getting down to the cave can be just challenging enough to make it fun, but still keeping it all...More
