One of the best-maintained volcano hiking spots we visited. Good views into the craters and over the surrounding lava fields. Fairly easy hike, with convenient parking and nice information board. A nice place for a quick stop to stretch your legs and get a good...More

This is a nice stop for a quick walk. Nice trails, beautiful view. While we were stopped here, it was rather windy with mixed ice and snow - still worth the visit. The starkness of the weather was quite a contrast to the various greens...More

Stopped here on our drive along the Ring Road while in Iceland. Good walking path with a portion being on a footpath and a good portion climbing steps. The step climb is light-moderate strenuous if you are in somewhat good shape. The views at the...More

Hate to pass up a chance to climb and have a view of the area. This is an easy climb with steps available and seats half way up. You can see the little crater as well once you are up there, but you can't climb...More

We had a brief stop at Grábrókarhraun, a rough lava field covered with moss and birch growth. We were able to climb up the numerous staircases to view Grábrók Crater. It doesn't take long, but I'd recommend a stop to check out the view.

Interesting set of craters/volcanoes right next to the ring road. It has wooden steps going up one of the craters, and I can see why some people don’t like them but it does make it accessible. The main crater is well worth a look and...More

What a great way to begin your Ring Road Adventure. Although it's only a tiny taste of what's to come, it's a worthwhile stop on your way north on the west side of Iceland. It has stairs all the way up and an easy walking...More

We found the visit to the Grabrok crater slightly disappointing, because the fun of walking up to the edge is basically taken away by the wooden path/stairs up to the edge. Still there are some nice views to be had on the top.

Visited on our 1st day in Iceland and it continued to be a favourite stop even after 12 days of seeing sights. The climb to the top is all stairs - someone said 500! Just take your time - it is worth it. The view...More

The Grabrok is an impressive volcano. The climb is not too bad and you can take your time. Even though it is just a 20 minute climb halfway there is a bench for the tired. The walk around the view gives you a great view....More

Sorry, it was dry when we climbed the steps. Not sure how safe the paths around the crater would be.

If you had experience with a crater, don't bother, its an ordinary crater with no water. Otherwise its worthwhile to see if you had never seen a crater before. But be very careful in Iceland especially in winter. The... More
