The main museum is in Carson City, but this is an enjoyable little museum. It's not a place I would go out of my way to visit, but if you are here to either ride the train or the Rail Explorer railcars, it is definitely worth seeing the exhibits. They have a 19th century private business car, a caboose, and a railway post office to explore.

If you are into trains or just like history I definitely recommend this museum. We went on a Tuesday morning and no one was there. Was nice to have the place all to ourselves. It's free and it's outside. You also get to go into 2 of the cars which is really nice.

Such cool history and nicely displayed. I wish we could go inside, but that is a no go with Covid. So next time I visit Boulder City I will go back again to see the inside of the trains. Decorated very nicely for Christmas too! Way to go!

We did this as a quick little stop between other adventures. It is located right in Boulder City and makes for a short afternoon adventure. I love trains and wish the actual train ride were a bit longer. That is the only shortfall. The attendants were informative, the trains were clean and the information educational. We loved the information about the Mail cars, it was fascinating.

The musuem has a number of pieces of railroad equipment on display. Was hoping to see the model railroad exhibit, but this was closed as was the caboose that the lady in the gift shop said was open. Most pieces of equipment had signs telling the history of that particular piece. There are Saturday and Sunday rides from the museum to behind the casino about 20 minutes each way. The ride is not scenic in my opinion - great view of the highway along the tracks. $10 for adults for ride - viewing the equipment no charge.

Located not far from Las Vegas, there’s trains on display that are free to see, very interesting carriages. Also a rideable journey starting at only $10, with options to ride up front in the engine. Really nice staff 5*

Turned up on a Friday morning. No staff there - no other people there - but it was great. Had been to the Hoover dam and wanted to do something other than head back to Vegas.

Loved the railway post office exhibit - and I spent a good hour or so wandering around.

As a bonus the bathrooms were unlocked and spotlessly clean.

Just great.

One of the less publicized programs at the Museum is their Engineer for an Hour opportunity. It provides the chance to actually operate a large locomotive. A volunteer engineer and brakeman were with us (my wife and I) and were absolutely terrific in explaining controls, procedures, etc. They stressed the time was ours to use so we both took turns operating the locomotive in forward and reverse, dealing with throttle, brakes, and of course the bells and whistles!

Truly a memorable time.

Horrible customer service. Ordered tickets on 11/29 it’s 12/3 still haven’t received em. I emailed dozen times and called. Still nothing. All I got was major attitude. Supposedly volunteers working, and they really don’t care. I spoke to Laura, David and Scott. All had different stories. Hard tickets, e tickets etc. yet never got em. Instead of an apology for spending hours wasting my time, they like to argue, and call you names! My whole family worked the railroads and we have a rich long history and I was looking to share my love with the next generation of kids. But never could simply get the tickets. David even started raising his voice after I told him he was on speakerphone with the kids in the room. Unacceptable I’m every way. DO NOT GO HERE. THEY TREAT PEOPLE LIKE CRAP AND RETIRED VETS EVEN WORSE! Take your business and hard earned money elsewhere.
