Expeditions Alaska can't control the weather but Rhane, our guide helped our group cope with a week of rain by staying optimistic, positive and by providing a dinner and cook tent which he carried: his pack was 70 pounds - he's an animal! Get the food package, it is worth it, the Guide prepared delicious meals for you. At first we were flabbergasted at the amount of food Rhane brought but when we exited we had eaten most everything in the bear canisters - nice planning Rhane. Our favorite meal was pizza, can you imagine eating pizza on a backpacking trip!?! The Seven Pass Route is not for the faint of heart, it is not on trails. It covers 2 glacier crossings (these were my favorite), numerous stream crossings, scree, rocks, spongy tundra, following a mountain goat trail straight up a mountain side, bush whacking through alders and willow trees and 3 passes. It is strenuous and you must train diligently for this backpack because your pack will weigh a minimum of 35 pounds (bear canister plus food is 15 pounds). I am turning 60 years old this week and chose to challenge myself with this trip, thankfully I had no issues because of my training, living in Colorado and Rhane's backcountry skills. It was relaxing for me to follow a guide and not be in fear that I had made a mistake with my navigation skills. I just got in line and followed Rhane. Alaska is rugged country with extreme weather but this combination makes for great glacier making. Do yourself a favor, stretch yourself and give yourself the gift of seeing Alaska purely by signing up for a trip with Expeditions Alaska.

We had an amazing backpacking trip to Wrangell St. Elias NP. Our guide Rhane is an awesome guy to hang out with, super competent, and he went above and beyond to make the trip a happy experience for everyone. If I ever need a guide in AK again I'll be coming back.

The Expeditions Alaska crew is wonderful from start to finish - communicating about the trip and logistics, guiding on the river and land, cooking and motivating (including yoga and dance parties)! Jule and Rachel really know the backcountry and bring their enthusiasm and joy to you and the journey... The views are beyond description - mountains that go on forever, expansive vistas, valley after beautiful valley, musk ox, caribou, wolves and on and on... I'll be back for the Arrigetch Peaks backpacking trip!

I did the Arrigetch Peaks backpacking trip with Explore Alaska from August 22 to September 1. It is an epic journey and the scenery is beyond my words.. Have a trip In the far flung remote area requires a lot of logistics works. I choose Explore Alaska because their past records . I contacted with Carl many times before the trip, he is very patient and quick to respond. Our guide Rhane is very learned and resourceful, he puts in a lot of effort to make us enjoy our journey. As for the backpacking part, it is physical demanding especially in bad weather, but it is not that daunting if you have proper preparation you should definitely give it a try because what you get outweighs all the exertions. It is a trip for your lifetime and I highly recommend go with EA

I did this hike/raft with four others in August 2019. The trip was terrific, the guide was fabulous and the experience to die for. The Arrigetch hike is probably the most logistically complicated 10-day trip one can do in AK. It involves two bush flights, storage of raft gear and alot of logistics to go right. The payoff is some of the most stunning scenery and untrammeled nature you'll ever see. EA handled all the logistics without a fault, and put the five of us in the hands of a supremely experienced and skilled guide Jules. Further, EA principal Carl Donohue was very accessible online in the months before hand to answer my questions and help ensure I had everything needed. I'd recommend this outfit not just for harder hikes like Arrigetch, but any Alaska hike they offer, and they offer a few. Just my 2c. Well done . EA!
