After hearing about the Spring Adventure Package (SAP) some 10+ years ago, I was finally able to make this a reality in 2024! My sister and I did the trip from Forest City, IA to Anchorage in 18 days . . . 5,529 miles total. Our 2025 Solis campervan was the right vehicle for us, and got a respectable 17.0 mpg for our journey. The 325 gallons used for the trip cost right at $1,370 or an average of $4.22/gallon (including the conversion of liters and CD$ for our time in Canada).
And while "boondocking" is generally acceptable throughout most of Canada & Alaska, we did opt to stay in campgrounds for all 18 nights. Most were national or state/provincial parks, while we did also utilize a few commercial campgrounds. We thoroughly LOVED all of the options and flexibility afforded us with the Solis.
For all the advance planning necessary, the GAH staff was amazing. They were responsive and helpful in all of our questions regarding the logistics of the trip and the features of the campervan. The turn-in of the vehicle on the final day was seamless and uneventful.
This is not an inexpensive trip! But with the SAP it was affordable for us to do it. There are some nuances that may make the trip a challenge for some, but if you go into it with an open mind and a degree of flexibility, it's a great way to travel and explore the lower 48, Canada and Alaska by RV.
We would highly recommend the GAH/SAP to anyone who is interested in exploring and being "off the grid" for a couple of weeks.

Well hello there. I can't tell from your Tripadvisor handle who this is, but I have my suspicions. Von? Regardless, thank you for the 5-Bubble Tripadvisor review, and all of your helpful and encouraging comments. I'm sure others considering this program will appreciate your comments as well. Glad you had a great trip. Sounds like you Folks had an awful lot of fun, which is what we strive for. Thank you again. Bob Johnson, Director of Marketing, Great Alaskan Holidays.

Easy check in process, free shuttle from airport and then we were handed the keys. Orientation videos are a must because they just turn you loose on the open roads right after check in (we didn’t ask for any help). Everything worked perfectly , seamless, easy, and good gas mileage until we had a something poke a hole in one of our tires. As a single mom with two teenagers in tow we safely made it to a safeish place to pull over. We then decided we could change the tire ourselves and went looking for the jack… the jack was under the dinette table far away from the spare tire so we called GAH at 1:30am asking where the jack was located. We called their emergency line and got a representative to have someone call us back. The guy from GAH called us to tell us where the jack was located, I asked him what we would do if we couldn’t get it changed in which he replied “call a tow truck but I’ll doubt anyone will come this late at night”. Basically—- good luck and didn’t offer us additional information like other options, who pays for tow truck, etc. The jack was missing its handle that came with the jack as FAH replaced it with a crow bar built to lift the jack and unscrew bolts. The lack of the missing extension bar built for the jack made it more difficult for us to pump the jack to lift the trailer. The tire was stuck to the Axel so we couldn’t remove it in order to replace the tire with their spare. Remember each axel has two tires, unlike a regular car/truck I flagged someone down and they helped us get the tire off by wedging a piece of wood for leverage. We finally after 8 hours (up all night) got the new tire on and we were off. Other than that, it was a great experience, powerful truck to power the weight of the RV and easy check in and check out. I would just encourage more of an overview of what to do if a tire blows as Alaska has a lot of construction and I would suspect this happens often. I know it’s up to us to read everything but when you’re in a urgent situation stranded with your two kids in the middle of Alaska, it’s extremely nerve racking.

Hi, Jamie. Thank you for leaving your review, and for your extensive feedback. I'm terribly sorry you had a bad tire experience. Please know, your feedback will be very helpful in ensuring our RV's are supplied correctly, and this doesn't happen again. And yes, you're right....Alaska is hard on tires. Again, you have my sincere apologies. I'm glad you were able to have a great vacation regardless. Thank you again. Bob Johnson, Director of Marketing, Great Alaskan Holidays.

Great customer service from the initial inquiry all the way to the final drop-off of the RV. We rented the Solis and it performed great on over 1200 miles travelled over 9 days. In our opinion, the Solis is the perfect option for two people, tight but manageable. The only minor issue we had was water intrusion when the pop-up was folded down. My best guess is that the canvas was wet and leaked at the window zippers? The other minor issue was with the premium grill, it didn't heat very well.
We own the same brand and model and it certainly didn't perform like ours. It got the job done...albeit slow. I highly recommend Great Alaskan Holidays, Inc.. We will be a return customer.

Arrived at airport in Anchorage and called for shuttle to GAH, short wait for shuttle arrival, loaded bags up and in less than 10 minutes arrived at our pick up destination. Unloaded bags and checked in early as our rental wasn’t available yet. While waiting we were welcomed with assertive service, coffee, couches to relax on, brochures/maps of area, hot dogs n chips(special occasion event) ability to watch our pre launch video in a private room where it’s quiet. Processing took the most time of our check in, but reasonable. Loaded up our bags and off we went for 10 glorious days in Alaska!
They give you a very detailed operational/troubleshooting manual that was helpful and used along our trip. Upon returning, detailed instructions are provided for quick inspection. Topped off gas and filled propane at nearby gas station. After a 20-30 min inspection the GAH Shuttle took us to airport and our driver gal realized we left an item in the shuttle while we were checking our bags. She ran in with the item and made sure it wasn’t left behind! All around first class service, attention to details and accommodations! Would highly recommend to first time users and those familiar with RV’s!

The Motorhome was amazing. Everything functioned correctly and the size was perfect for my wife and I. Having the ability to go, and stop, whenever and wherever we wanted was the perfect way to explore Alaska. The large number of city, state, federal campgrounds allowed us to easily find wonderful places to rest and/spend the night.
And the Great Alaskan Holidays Staff were fantastic to do business with.
We highly recommend this company and will use them again on our next visit to Alaska. Thanks G.A.H.!!!

Our experience with Great Alaskan Holidays was really good. Our RV was a 2025 31’ model and was well equipped, everything worked as needed, we had plenty of room in the house as well as storage underneath. It was exceptionally clean too. We did experience some water leaks during a few fierce rain events. This was concerning only because Winnebago has an awesome reputation. The customer service people were pleased we shared this issue and even mentioned if it had been a dire situation, they could have sent a tech to help us in the field. It wasn’t that dire. On this trip, we were 2 women, long time friends, and we had hired Shawn, a private guide, to accompany us and drive us. This was a wonderful solution for us even though I had previously owned and drove an RV for many years. On the last day as we were driving the RV back, we unfortunately we had a situation with Shawn and she abruptly left us in a parking lot. Great Alaska Holidays was awesome! There were understanding and helpful! I was able to text my drivers license to them and they approved my driving the motorhome back, about 70 miles. The return process was smooth and easy, the shuttle was right there to drive us to the airport. I would most certainly use and recommend Great Alaskan Holidays to anyone who wanted the adventure of a lifetime.

This was the trip of a lifetime and it did not disappoint! The weather was beautiful, the sights and people of Alaska make you want to come back for more. Our motorhome was very comfortable and nearly brand new. The lady who checked us in was so helpful and kind, wish I had written down her name. Great Alaskan Holidays is very accommodating to your travel needs. We would highly recommend them. Homer, Seward, Talkeetna and Coopers landing areas were some of our favorites. Plan your trip now you won’t be sorry!

We have rented from multiple motorhome rental companies in Anchorage, and Great Alaskan Holidays is hands down the best. The motorhome was a newer model and in excellent condition, stocked with everything we needed to make our trip memorable and enjoyable. The kitchenware was high quality and very functional. We had ample linens and towels and even had unused supplies when we returned. We were given a list of items we may need that wasn’t included, and that was extremely helpful. Our pick up and return process was painless and simple. We travel to Alaska at least once a year and we will be renting to rent from Great Alaskan Holidays again.

This was our first time renting an RV and going to Alaska. This company has great reputation and was highly recommended to us. They were very helpful booking it for us and answering all my questions. They have an excellent fleet of newest RVs, great educational videos to watch before getting there. Customer service renting it was top notch. We went to Denali first and after using the bathroom just a couple of times for #1, the black water tank was showing as full. We thought that was strange because it was supposed to be emptied before we picked it up. No big deal, our campground had bathrooms with running water so we used them. Emptied the tank barely 2 days later and hit the road. Again, barely use the bathroom as we head to Homer and the black water tank is full again. Thankfully once again, we were staying in a campground with full bathrooms and showers so no big deal, we manage. We had it for a week during which time we emptied it 3 times while barely using the bathrooms. We emptied in Homer and headed straight back to the office for return although we were staying in it overnight as our flight was leaving at 5am.
We arrived to the lot at 5:10pm on a Friday . I texted the office and told them we were a few minutes late and were refueling nearby. During the return we told them about the tank issue and showed them again that it was showing full. We asked them to empty the tank so that we can use the bathroom overnight. That was not received very well by Shannon. She completely ignored us while we were standing right next to her and she was directing her employees to tell us we can not be accommodated. Once she turned away, the employees were very apologetic on her behalf. They said She was just mad that there were other people that did not arrive with their returns yet. We walked inside to use the restroom in the office to overhear her telling others how she doesn’t want to stay for another 90 minutes and allow us to empty again and be late home to her husband. I can understand that sentiment but it was really rude to hear her talking about this to everyone behind our back and never addressing us directly. So we stayed in the RV for the night, 4 of us, and could not use the restroom from 5pm until 4:30am when we left. That was unacceptable after spending over $3000 for a weekly rental.
Things happen, I get that, but customer service goes a long way. One person’s attitude here completely negated all the good service and left very negative impression. This particular RV had an issue, which happens sometimes but it could have been resolved by just letting us empty the tank and considering our concerns.

Hello, Selma. Wow...yes...I definitely see your concerns here, and I would like to offer my sincere apologies for how you were treated. This will be brought to the attention of the appropriate managers, for sure. I agree with you. There was no excuse for this type of behavior. Again, I apologize. We'll be looking into this further. This review contains negative feedback due to lack of computer speed and crash control warning system on 2nd full day on the road. Upon arrival at the rental facility (10:40 am), scheduled for pick up at 11:00, my vehicle was not ready until noon. Witnessed excessive wait times as others arrived to pick up their rental. The Winnebago Solis is a great idea tho not especially people friendly with three levels of the floor. I broke a finger catching myself from a fall while making my way to the toilet; not a nail, my finger. Each customer must figure out what to do about the banging and clanging of pots & lids, silverware under the sink (!), dishes were delivered in the sink in the dish strainer. The bed needs to be each day for access to some drawers, and cabinets on that level. Then, large upper cabinet is not usable while bed is up.
Alaska is wonderful but will definitely not rent this vehicle again.

Hello, and thank you for leaving us your review. Yes, in many ways you are correct. The Winnebago Solis is not for everyone. It definitely comes with some unusual challenges simply because of the way it was built. Being a Class B camper van, you unfortunately give up some conveniences you'd have in a more typical Class C rig. And we're very sorry to hear about your finger. I hope it is feeling better. We'd love to have you back as our guests again someday....maybe in a Class C rental next time. Thank you again. Bob Johnson, Director of Marketing, Great Alaskan Holidays.
