My husband and I did the winter dog sled ride today with the Alaska Mushing School. Our location was the Happy Trails Kennel in Big Lake, AK. We thoroughly enjoyed the short documentary film in the beginning, meeting the dogs, and going on a seven mile sled ride through the snow and woods. Tim, our musher, was very nice and answered all of our questions. You could tell the dogs are well cared for. The company provides outerwear if needed (boots, snow pants, and heavy coats). This was a super fun experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting Alaska in winter.

This was the absolute most amazing thing we did while in Alaska! The people were so great and kind and would answer any question you had. We went at night and were able to hang out after our tour and talk with them and let the dogs it was so great! I highly recommend going here when you visit Alaska! We drove 2 and a half hours and didn’t get home until 3 am but it was well worth the drive to go to this one specifically! Hands down amazing experience!

The highlight of our trip to Alaska! Our 9 year old didn’t want to leave the grounds. The owner’s passion and pride in the work they do shows. They patiently answered all of our questions and we left with so much more knowledge about the sport. The facility was clean and all of the dogs were well loved. The ride through their beautiful land was exciting!

All the amazing reviews are right! Such a fun afternoon; it felt very personalized and we got lots of great local tips from Matt and Liz as well. Dogs were so friendly, puppies were supremely adorable (watch anything they can chew on, they were determined to try to rip up my dangly poncho). So glad we found the time for a uniquely authentic Alaska experience.

Definitely one our highlights in Alaska. We love dogs so that helps. Matt and Liz were so genuinely nice and welcoming. A great private tour for two couples. They took us both out at the same time in 2 different sleds, patiently answered all of our 100 questions, and let us pet all of the dogs and the puppies. These are happy, healthy, well loved dogs. So fun to see them jump in the pools at the end of the ride and the puppies on the wheel was hilarious. Highly suggest this experience.
