I was skeptical about traveling to Alaska during Pandemic in October but i talked to Russ (Downtown Anchorage tour group); he was so confident that i booked and finalized my itinerary at the same moment. Me and my wife would highly recommend Russ, he was experienced, funny, helpful and one gem of a person. He really loves his work. The tours were flexible, we stopped at a lot of scenic locations where you could just close your eyes and feel in heaven at places like Reflection Lake. Glacier hiking was one hell of an experience as this was something pretty new we tried. We cannot forget the pure blue ice 🧊 up at Matanushka glacier. We saw the iceberg in fresh running water, tasted the fresh Halibut fish in Whittier, and had lunch at Long Rifle Lodge (included in the tour) which had a perfect location. He picked us from the airport a night before our tour, that was a sweet gesture. He was very passionate about fossil hunting and taught us a lot of ways to explore areas around Anchorage. From Earthquake effects, to wildlife trail we explored areas of ALASKA that we might not have, had we not booked him. As he knew we were from FLORIDA 🌞 during last night of our tour he drove us to the Flat Top Mountain where we experienced first snowfall of the season. We shall travel Alaska again next year as this was once in a lifetime experience for us.

Thank you for these kind words. I am sorry it took me so long to respond. It has been an interesting winter in Alaska. Lots of snow and colder than it has been in years. I do hope you get a chance to come back. Please look me up if you do. Cheers,

We booked a 4-hour tour to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Our guide, Russ, was super! He gave us a lot of narration and local insight on the way there and back and since it was raining and we didn’t want to spend as much time as normal at AWCC, he drove us out to as far as the Whittier Tunnel and showed us a few more interesting sites in the area, including the beautiful Portage Lake. Russ was great and I felt like he really wanted to make sure we were comfortable and entertained and enjoyed our tour. Definitely recommend!

Russ is a great tour guide who is very knowledgeable about Anchorage and it’s surrounding areas. He was able to squeeze me in on a tour with less than 24 hour notice, and was willing to pick me up/ drop me off wherever was convenient for me. If you’re looking for a beautiful tour up to the wildlife conservation center for an affordable price, Anchorage downtown tour group is the place for you!

Avoid! I paid for the tour, got my confirmation and then never heard anything from the tour operator. They were supposed to call the evening before to confirm pickup time, and when I didn’t get a call I tried calling the 2 phone numbers on the confirmation and both had been disconnected! I sent emails to 3 different email addresses and all came back as undeliverable, and Google lists them as permanently closed, but their website is still active and taking payments. This is an absolute scam.

Russ knew his information! I was in Anchorage for 6 days and never saw a moose....until our trip with Russ! We did see 3-4 at the nature center a few minutes before...but on the way back, we saw the greatest thing of the whole week. He called himself the “moose whisperer” and to be honest i didn’t believe it until that day. As we pulled up and around a roundabout, we saw 2 ears poking about in the grass. So we drove around and there was female moose. But that wasn’t it! About 5 minutes into an intense photo shoot, there popped out a little moose calf and 5 minutes later another one! Best day of our trip!

Beware! Do not book with this company! We booked a tour with this company. The evening prior to the tour the owner (Russ) called to say he did not have a driver for the tour. We agreed the tour would be cancelled and we would get our money back. We did not even get upset at him for the last minute cancellation, which may people would have. When the refund did not get issued we tried repeatedly to contact him by message and phone with no response. Two weeks later after we say we are going to leave negative reviews he messages saying he is sorry for the delay and sends a screen shot showing the refund. The refund showed up as a pending transaction on my credit card but never posted and 5 days later it disappeared. I called the credit card company and they said the vendor reversed the refund. We have now had to file a dispute case through Visa and wait 30 days to hopefully get our money back. I have attached a screen shot of his message showing the refund that he later reversed.

Tour operator was a no show. We waited for over an hour and a half for pickup but the company did not come. Called them 3 times and left messages - no answer and no replies to the messages. Sent email but still no reply a day later.

We had a very interesting trip around Anchorage and its environs and Russ is incredibly knowledgable and pleasant. However hard he tried the nearest thing to a bear was bear excrement and a moose seen on his camera, so don't expect to see anything and if you do be happy!! One word of caution we booked in the office opposite the Hilton Anchorage but the lady ran my credit card twice and said the bookings hadn't gone through - but a phone call from Russ later then said they had and he was refunding one of them. Fine, but as we come from the UK we lost on the dollar-pound exchange rate on the transaction. So, be careful and pay once!! Russ is really knowledgeable and I had no idea that the native Americans (First Nation for Canadians) had managed to get one billion dollars from the the federal government in I think 1971, because the Russian Tsar couldn't have sold Alaska to the USA in 1867 as they didn't own in!

I am sorry you lost money due to the exchange rate and most importantly, due to our mistake. I have issued an additional $20 refund to cover any additional expense. I hope this note finds you well. I am thankful for your honest review of our services. I hope you get the opportunity to visit again. I am not sure if I told you that I do offer copies of all my photos, for personal use, to anyone who travels with me. Please reach out to me via email and I will send you a link so you can download any photos you wish. Thank you for allowing Anchorage Downtown TourGroup to help plan your adventure. FYI; Public Law 92-203, approved December 18, 1971, authorized Alaska Natives to select and receive title to 44 million acres of public land in Alaska, and $962,000,000 in cash as settlement of their aboriginal claim to land in the State. Cheers, Russ

Russ is nice, if a bit strange, but has extensive knowledge of Alaska on all aspects. He himself is passionate about the wildlife but when I mentioned I wasn't too ekkn on that, he was incredible at switching to accommodate my interests. He added a place to show me some Native art and his explanations were fascinating. We saw n incredible sunset from a great location, and we even encountered a bear. All in all, Id recommend this tour- I learned a lot from Russ.

I hate giving bad reviews but this was the worst tour I’ve ever done. I guess the regular tour guides were not available and didn’t bother to train this guy. He told us at the end that this was only his second tour, hopefully he will improve. His driving was questionable but we didn’t crash. He offered no narration and what he did offer was factually incorrect, again, training. I don’t think he has lived in Anchorage long but he must have to stay a bit since he was wearing an ankle monitor. We did see some animals so it wasn’t all bad.

I do appreciate your honesty, but I would hope you would have called me direct before leaving such a horrible, defaming, review. What people do not realize is we as owners would rather refund you 100% than let you slander our livelihood the way you have done. I do hope you will reach out to me with your complaint.

I will be in Anchorage for one day. I would like for someone to pick me up there around 10 a.m .(I land at 1 a.m.) and cram as much Alaska into the day as possible. The weather is supposed to be very cold, so it will need to be from inside a car--not hiking--although scenic stops are fine. Is this the right tour for me?

I am a lifelong Alaskan also Kaitie14, I was a small child at the bonfire on 9th Ave when Alaska became a State in 1959. And I've only met one other person that is more knowledgeable about "All things Alaska" than Anchorage Downtown tourgroups!
