As an avid reader, friends are always tagging me in list posts on all things book related, and the Seattle library is frequently included. So when I moved to Washington I knew I had to give this library a look. It is huge! But it is also very user friendly. The floors are clearly labeled and they put the Dewey... More

Well worth 30 minutes to check out the amazing architecture - take elevator to top (10th floor?) and work your way down around the 'spiral' stacks. Enjoy gourmet chocolates and coffee on the 3rd floor.

Thank you Nancy Pearl!! (Seattle head librarian who shepherded this through to completion.) Truly a world-class piece of architecture. This is a wonderful, functional library, and we also visit at least once a year just to experience this wonderful space. The glass walls and ceilings bring urban Seattle right into the library--the outdoors becomes the decor.

It is said that "starchitects" deliver their worst buildings to Seattle, and the library exemplifies this. The Rem Koolhaus designed structure looks as if, after it collapsed, it has been surrounded by a huge chain link fence. I would loved to have spent more time here. My daughter had found it on a website. Very interesting architecture.

Pick up a laminated guide to the library as you enter. Not only is this an excellent library with the full range of service you'd expect from an international library, but the architecture is breath-taking, the staff are helpful and I enjoyed the evening book reading.

It is gorgeous, you can spend a couple hours walking around taking in the architecture. there are children things going on to keep them busy, and plenty of places to read and study.

The kids had great fun with the tour cards and all of the amazing views! It was an excellent destination for a family who loves reading or architecture. The book sorting machine was a quick fun thing to visit too! The staff was helpful and friendly.
