Got trapped upstairs because the escalators were out of order and there was only one elevator with a huge line. Security would not let anyone use the escalator like a staircase and stopped people that were simply trying to walk downstairs. Pretty creepy not being able to get out. We finally managed to get the elevator after about an 45 minutes.

Loads of homeless mentally ill drug users in the streets around the mall. As a visitor I was too nervous to go out but tried this shopping mall. It was fine but as a uk person i was not used to so many security giards with guns!! What's going on...I thought Seattle was going to be a relaxing break after NYC!

I remember going to this sparkling new, bright, mall in 1988 with a big Disney Store, great food court and tons of fun shopping. Over the years, I'd return to the mall to eat and shop, when I worked Downtown. It was still pretty great. I loved taking the Monorail from Westlake out to Seattle Center. Then, in the 2010's, the mall started to change. The open-air feeling started disappearing. Shops started closing. The food court was gone. The whole mall started feeling claustrophobic with dark, uninteresting, store entrances only around the escalator. A handful of places to eat. Just meh. No longer the fun destination it used to be. (Not to mention the amount of drug deals, homelessness and crime happening outside the mall). Now Westlake Mall is nearly the entrance to the Monorail, for me.

Saks 5th Ave, Nordstrom Rack and ZARA- Need I say more?!?1If you are a fashionista- you will be in heaven at this mall. The layout is spacious and easy to navigate.
The specialty shops on the main floor are a delight to check out: Fireworks and Lush are ones you don't want to miss
The downside: They closed the food court and the one in the works- still has not opened and does not look like it is any time soon.
Be mindful out in front of the mall: This is the place where all the disrupters seem to congregate in Seattle to protest etc- just always be aware - it is safe for the most part.

We were visiting Seattle from Canada and decided to go for lunch at the Chipotle Grill. Chipotle had a long lineup so we decided to go into the Westlake Centre Food Court to use the washroom first. When we got to the washroom we had to buzz a security guard to allow us in. The security guard then told us that he could not let us in unless we had a receipt from where we were planning on eating. We explained to him that we were visiting from Canada and wanted to use the washroom before eating. I understand that they must have this policy to prevent transients from off the street coming in and using the washroom for things that they shouldn’t be using it for, but he could plainly see that we were VERY obviously not like that. He still wouldn’t let us in. We ended up walking up a block back to our hotel and using it there, but we refused to go back to that mall or give our business to Chipotle. We ate somewhere else. I am very disappointed in the fact that we go to the US and spend our hard earned money, which supports their economy and we were treated in such a manner. I have never experienced that sort of treatment anywhere in Canada, and I have never been anywhere that had that type of policy. We like to visit the US and spend our money there, but we definitely have a bad taste in our month about Seattle.

This is a nice to make. If you visiting the space needle by way of the train, this is the pick stop and drop off spot. We stop here are the needle. This is a high end mall with a daisy, which is a Japanese dollar store. Everything is 1.50us unless marked more. From there it a very short walk to park with the blue tress. Also in the other direction if your in to fifty shades of grey its about a 5 to 10 min walk to escala. Fifty's penthouse. From there we went to pik place market. visit the gum wall, first starbucks.

As you will notice this artical is not really about westlake center but more about Seattle as a whole. However the westlake center is not worth the stroll downtown. The norstroms rack store is on the bottom floor and it is way over priced and looks more like a thrift store having a fire damge sale. Also stay away from shopping along the waterfront as there is really nothing there but overpriced junk and the majority of the food places are really crap and over priced. Seattle should really thank Pike Place Market for being at the heart of seattle as it is worth the visit. The streets are filthy dirty and they employ an army of street cleaners to try and keep up with the mess but they are losing the war. The museums are worth the visit and most of all the museum of pop culture, even though they are over priced. Seattle has a serious serious serious problem with mental health, homelessness, and addiction through every neighbourhood. For the very few that try to help and thank god for them the city and government needs to step up to the plate and hit a grandslam and put thier political money where the fast talking mouths spout crap. you are not going to get rid of the problem but at least get a bigger grasp. the sun does shine in some spots but for the most part downtown is grey, dull and cold. Some of the outer areas are a little better like the Queen Anne North area. Another bright spot was a young lady bus driver who drove the number 13 bus from that area to downtown. She had to be the nicest driver we have ever come across and someone should recognize her for giving it her best effort for trying to make travlers welcomed. The hotels, Air B&Bs have their prices gone way out of control and you would be better off going to bahamas, hawaii or vegas for the prices that is being charged. Seattles charm is gone but there is hope if they give the emerald a bit of polishing.

This used to be a nice place in downtown Seattle to sit outside, watch people, cool off in water feature, get a coffee and a snack, listen to street musicians. Now it smells like pee, has homeless around, and is really not relaxing at all. So disappointed. Even the shopping mall is crappy. Used to have nice stores. now it's kind of ghetto. So sad.

The Food Court is presently closed for renovation, and we hope it will be returned to the super eating place it used to be. Over the years we've noticed the disappearance of the creperie, the excellent soup stand, the wonderful sushi makers. We had been looking forward to seeing our favourite, Noodle Zone. The Food Court served not only visitors but also those stopping by for take-out on the way home. It seemed a busy, popular place.
We like shopping at Daiso, Fireworks, Nordstrom Rack and eating at PF Chang.
Westlake Center is at the core of downtown shopping and is the centre of all our activity. Macy's and Nordstrom across the street, Pacific Place across from that , Westlake Park across the street, the Public Market an easy walk away.

While we all want to enjoy the holiday spirit, I do not feel comfortable walking through Westlake Center. The Holiday Carousel and decorations reach out to families and children. But the homeless and a collection of bedraggled youth openly smoking pot are overwhelming the area. Yes, it’s the holiday season…. Peace on Earth…… reach out to the less fortunate; but I won’t take my grandchildren there.

What are the closest hotels with underground parking in the immediate area? We stayed years ago at a hotel that had off street parking and we can't remember what it was called.

How can I get a taxi from Westlake Center to Pier 69
Written July 16, 2015
My experience in Seattle was every time I needed a taxi we just simply flagged an available one down. There were taxis everywhere and I'm certain they would be around Westlake as well. Another option is an app you can install on your phone for a service called Uber. You will set up an account with them and when you need a car the app will tell you how far away an available vehicle is and what the fee is. When you accept it the car will show up and you don't have to exchange money because it is charged to your account. It seemed when I was at any location in Seattle I saw options for Uber within the TripAdvisor app also.
