About Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float
Join us on the Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float as you retrace the steps of the gold seekers of 1898 on the Historic Chilkoot Trail. You will begin your journey in Skagway with a 20min drive out to the Chilkoot Trail head. From there you will embark on a 2 mile hike (350 ft elevation gain) lead by our very knowledgeable guides, as they tell you stories of the gold rush, point out flora and fauna along the trail, and look for signs of wildlife. Once your hike is complete, you will enjoy a scenic float on our 18ft ore framed rafts down the Taiya river (no white water). Once at the take out, enjoy warm beverages and a snack before heading back to town.

Stew was our guide and he was excellent. We had kids, adults, and seniors. Everyone was well served and taken care of in our journey. Stew pointed out interesting history, animal facts, points about the foliage and was generally excellent at his job. It was beautiful and worth every penny spent.

What a memorable trip. The hike was beautiful and Stu was so informative and helpful. Our group was a mix of ages and abilities but he accommodated everyone and made it fun. I will be recommending him to anyone going to Alaska.

When we disembarked from our ship and checked-in dockside the agent was excited that Stew was going to be our guide. He was great. The hike was not too difficult but challenged us, We are in our late 60's. At the more difficult stages of the hike Stew showed us how to navigate through the rocky trail. He was very patient and did not push us. He allowed us to set the pace. He was very knowledgeable about the area and its history and wildlife. With the float potion of the trip he helped us board the raft and explained what was going to happen along the river. There were no whitewater sections of the river, but it was an exciting ride as Stew narrated. He really loves his job. His knowledge and enthusiasm made for a delightful day. Ask for Stew if you book this trip.

We had a beautiful day for this excursion. Stu was our guide and he was excellent! Before we left, he told us exactly what to expect. I was a little intimidated, but Stu talked us through the hike, telling us what was coming up and exactly the best way to navigate "challenging" parts of the hike. Along with that he was a wealth of information and stories about the area. We loved his enthusiasm, and love for what he was doing! The float trip was a nice way to end the excursion as were the hot chocolate and cookies! If I know anyone coming to the area and looking for a great excursion I would highly recommend this one and to ask for Stu!
