Review of: DIY Jeep Tour
Our cruise stopped in Skagway and we decided to rent a car for the day and drive up to the Canadian border. We were traveling with an elderly family member that would need a scooter for longer walks.... and WE could go at our pace, having an option to take a part a scooter and store it in the back, stopping for snacks restroom breaks or souvenir shopping ( and a place to hold all the souvenirs) was a good choice for use. Also having the ability to drive to the cruise port to pick up and drop everyone off was handy. Skagway is not a big town and the walk from the cruise ship to the car pick up was all of 15 minutes. Staff there was friendly, the cars were clean (we chose to get packed lunches- and they were generously packed with chips and snacks as well.) The check in and return was easy.. just top off the gas ( and the gas is right across the street.) Overall, this was the better option for us to see the sights than the whitepass train ride (which was only running half way up due to track repair work and judging from some pictures I saw quite crowded). We were give a more typical mid-size SUV than the jeep wrangler pictured. Were also given an alternate route due to the covid restrictions in place at the Canadian border.

We booked this tour several months ago that started in Skagway and was supposed involve dog sledding and interact with the dogs. Several hours before the tour start time we got notice that they were canceling the dog portion of the tour due to restrictions getting into Canada due to COVID and offered to move us to just the bus tour in Skagway and refund a portion of the costs. We knew that Canada was closed but did not know the dogs were in Canada. The issue is that they had to know that getting into Canada was not allowed since that is common knowledge yet waited until it was too late for us to book an excursion on the cruise ship to tell us of the change in the tour. This in my opinion is deceptive and one could interpret that they did it hoping that we would agree to the change since it was too late to book anything else. Horrible way to run a business and I will never recommend this tour company to anyone.

This is an incorrect review. Your travel agent was supposed to notify you of the change to the Canadian Border. They were supposed to cancel or change your tour. When we got your manifest we saw this had not happened so we offered to refund you or change your tour. We did this out of a gesture of good will. We were trying to make lemonade out of lemons for you. At Southeast Tours, our pledge is to always give our passengers the best customer service. We request that you remove this one star review and direct it toward the appropriate party. Thank you.

Review of: DIY Jeep Tour
We are so happy we chose to do this for our day in Skagway. They are wonderful to work with! She explained everything so well and answered questions. They did not have jeeps at the moment but we had a brand new toyota forerunner. We were given a binder with a guide as well as an audio thumbdrive to listen to. Super easy to follow along and took a bonus side trip to Dyea where we took a short hike. With Covid we were not able to go all the way into Canada, but still PLENTY to see along the way! We were stopping constantly for photos. We finished everything we wanted to do by 3, so still had plenty of time to walk around the town. We had the slunch they provided early and then stopped for a later lunch at Chilkoot Trail Outpost which I also highly recommend. If you want to see Skagway at your own pace- this is the way to go! Great people to work with and business was easy to find! No other way to see Skagway !

I reserved a Jeep a month in advance. We’ve never been to Skagway, and the interactive iPad with location info and audio guides was a big selling point. When we arrived, they said due to Covid, all their Jeeps were stuck in Anchorage. We were provided a Toyota 4Runner. No iPad, no audio guides, just a binder with local info. The staff was nice. They provided a box lunch, but for $325, I would’ve passed on a double the cost avis rental car. I have the exact 4Runner in my garage at home. Save your $. As long as the Canadian border is closed, there is no reason to spend $356.95 (the cost with tax) to drive around Skagway. Biggest waste of money on this vacation so far. I feel like we should’ve been notified they had no Jeeps and no iPads, and given an option for a refund.

It is true we have made temporary accommodations to adapt to the new Covid restrictions. Due to the border closure, we were not able to get you a jeep for your DIY tour, but instead, we offered you an upgrade at no extra charge. We offered you a brand new 2021 4x4 Four Runner with an SR5 package. That vehicle cost over $65K. It is a substantial upgrade to the jeep wrangler you were promised. Each DIY Tour is still allowed to drive to the top of the White Pass Summit. On that trip, you get to see all the best waterfalls, glaciers, and amazing pull outs for viewing and photo taking. You still need a passport because you will be required to show it on your return trip through US Customs even though you never went through Canadian Customs. We supplied you with a thumb drive with the audio guide loaded on it that was tethered to your car stereo so you could listen to the tour while you drive. Our IPAD interactive tour is linked to a GPS and not entering Canada makes that an issue. We also supplied you with a laminated Murray's Guide with colored maps and mile by mile descriptions. Your DIY Tour also came with a Turkey Wrap Lunch made fresh that morning with Chips, Cookies and a 20oz Bottled Water included with a Cooler and Ice Packs. Yes, the tour is different, but to insinuate it is not worth the cost for what you get is unfair. FYI, a regular rental car in Skagway or Anchorage right now is almost $300. That is if you can even find one. In closing, we explain all of this to each customer before they leave the parking lot, and of course, we offer a full refund if the customer would want one. So far, no one has ask for one. All our feedback has been positive, and most are very thankful for our ingenuity in even having this tour available under the circumstances. Another special thing we have offered all our guest for the 2021 season is a side trip out to DYEA to the tidal flats to see the salmon spawning and the chance of seeing Grizzly Bears. This area is also the start of the famous Chilkoot Trailhead. This side trip is offered at no additional cost to the customer and is purely a bonus to the DIY Tour experience to help make up for some of the Covid restrictions. None of these temporary changes will be needed for the 2022 tour season. They are only in place right now due to Canada not allowing us to enter into their country.

It was one of the most memorable trips for me and my family. Thank you for letting my little one to pick the colour of the jeep! We had a great time.
