We enjoyed the scenery and history of this tour very much. We rode a bus up to Fraser, Canada (have your passport handy!) then boarded the train for the ride back down to Skagway. The narration along the route is very helpful to understand what the area was like during the gold rush. The train rides along at a leisurely pace, giving plenty of opportunity for photos both from inside the car and outside on the deck area; you just can't walk between cars. The old wooden bridge you pass makes you appreciate the requirements for bridge upkeep in this modern age! Other points of interest were the black cross and the Dead Horse Gulch. This phase of the trip is worthy of a 5-Excellent rating. We returned to catch a bus to Liarsville; we would have rather gone into Skagway and walked around there. Liarsville felt very tourist-trapy and was very disappointing: the food was good, the singer/guitar-playing woman was fantastic, but the rest was quite hokey - the theater show and the panning for gold wasn't worth the time. This part reduced my score to 4-Very Good rating. Back on the bus, we went into Skagway and toured the Red Onion Saloon. The tour was interesting, and I was surprised to hear that the gold rush and resulting "side businesses" only lasted two years.

We did a 7 Hour Ride the Rail/Emerald Lake Combo with Jay from Beyond Skagway in August whilst on an Alaskan cruise. There were two families made up of 4 adults and 4 children (9, 8, 7 and 5). The booking and communication prior to the tour was excellent with the staff being very helpful in answering and offering suggestions to any questions I had. When our cruise ship arrived at the port Jay was there to greet us and drop us for the White Pass and Yukon route railway. At the end of the ride Jay was there waiting for us to start our private tour. The bus was comfortable, spacious and clean and the company was able to provide us with booster car seats which was great. Everything about the tour was fantastic. We loved all the stops and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the scavenger hunt that ran throughout the whole tour. Jay was friendly, professional and extremely knowledgable, providing us with commentary and information about the all stops/sights as well as answering questions we had. The kids too were really engaged and consider this tour to be one of the highlights of our holiday. Big thank to Jay and the Beyond Skagway team, we most definitely recommend you to any one visiting Skagway.

I highly recommend this tour company and Jay. We were greeted coming off the ship to start our private tour for the day with Jay. We visited Skagway, Yukon territory, dog sledding camp, Emerald Lake and many other areas. Jay was very professional, courteous, very thoughtful and kind. His knowledge is above and beyond. We were able to stop when we wanted and go where we wanted plus were provided with many suggestions. This is a great way to avoid the group tour and have a day on your own without the crowd. You only go to Alaska once or not often, it’s worth the extra money to go for the private tour and have the best experience.

I'm thrilled that you enjoyed your day with Jay! We at BST try to provide you with the best guides who give you the best experience. Private tours are great! Small groups with only your family and friends AND often less expensive than the large bus tour cost. Thank you for writing about your day!

What a wonderful day we had on our private tour of Skagway and the Yukon Territory. We loved being able to stop when and where we wanted to and even had time to add on Caribou Crossing dog sled camp! One extra perk was that car seats were provided for our little ones! Thank you for an amazing day making memories!

We had the most wonderful day with Becky our Tour guide. She was so informative, kind, and fun to be with. Our group of 9 varied in age from 2 —83 years old and we all equally had fun. She provided a car seat for our baby which was super convenient being that we were visiting from a cruise ship. The day was perfect and she allowed us to do everything we wanted and suggested things along they way. The vans are very comfortable and have huge tall windows that made seeing everything enjoyable!! Can’t recommend enough!!
