This is an excellent trip and much more than just a ride from Skagway to Juneau. Depending on the time of year, you see whales, seals, bears and eagles along the way. The owners go out of the way to get close to waterfalls, lighthouses, point out glaciers & gold mines. They are kid friendly in allowing them to take the steering wheel sometimes while in the channel. Price isn't cheap but you get alot for your money.

On our way back from Alaska on the Alaskan Highway, our last stop was Skagway. From there we took Alaska Fjordlines to Juneau for the day and then back to Skagway at night. At first I thought it wouldn't be enough time in Juneau but, for general sightseeing, it was (we didn't have enough time for Mendenhall Glacier, but we never expected to have that much time). Originally we just thought of the boat ride as a way to and from Juneau, but it turned out to be the much more memorable portion of the day. The scenery was beautiful and the crew went out of their way to make sure that we saw wildlife - whale, porpoise, seals, etc. We took a wildlife cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska and didn't see as much wildlife as we did on the cruise to and from Juneau. The light food they served onboard was also delicious. We had our two daughters (14 and 16) with us and they absolutely loved the journey. I highly recommend Alaska Fjordlines. They treated us very well and gave us wonderful memories!

On our trip to the Kenai Peninsula, we took this unplanned trip: the Fjord Express to Juneau (from Skagway) trip. We had to stay two days in an RV park in Skagway to do this, but we thought the additional expense of about $500 would be worth it, although we are on a fixed income. While the boat experience was wonderful, problems surfaced with the bus ride from the boat to Juneau, and back again. After a passenger made a crude comment about a woman politician. The driver laughed, and mentioned how he had a great joke, but would save it for the way back. Coming back, the driver first offered his own crude comment about the same woman politician, then told his “joke”, which was a mean-spirited, demeaning comment about a U.S. President. After reporting to the company that the bus driver, while personable, crossed the line with the sexist comment and the political “joke”, we received a prompt reply, and they let us know that they were handling the political reference. However, nothing was mentioned about the sexist comment. I wrote back, asking that they not be excused, either. The company never got back to me. It seems they felt the need to address the political jabs, but not the insults directed to the paying customers who were women (or women supporters) on the tour. This is very unfortunate, and if you are a woman (or a supporter of women), I encourage you to find a different carrier other than Alaska Fjordlines.

I had such a wonderful time using Alaska Fjordlines when I went to visit a friend in Skagway, Alaska. The bus picked me up in a very convenient location in Juneau, took me to the ferry, and we were on our way. After only 20 minutes in we saw a mother and baby humpback whale, and 2 other humpbacks throughout the journey. Also a mom and baby orca, and other orcas, seals, and sea lions! It was truly incredible. Libby made us delicious salmon and corn chowder. Overall a surreal experience that I will remember forever. The views throughout the entire ride were spectacular. Even the ride back to Juneau from Skagway with Alaska Fjordlines with not as exceptional weather was pleasant and beautiful, with delicious muffins! I would recommend this ferry ride to anyone who is looking to make the journey.
