If you are going to Skagway, Craig with Emerald Lake Tours is your guy! His bus is new, clean, comfortable, he has a mic that allows everyone to hear, and he will adjust the temperature to keep you comfortable. He has been in Alaska over 20 years and can answer just about all of your questions. He couldn’t tell us where to get local jerky, lol. He knows all the photo spots, lookouts, how to avoid the commercialized areas, will pick you up at the ship and then at the end of the WPYR ride, and deliver you back to the ship when you are done making sure you make the time back. Just tell him what you want and he will make it happen. He is knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and personable. He is more than reasonable with his prices. He will take your pics for you and even offered at the Yukon sign without us having to ask. We had a group of 8 and we had his whole bus to ourselves so everyone had a window seat but better than that, he made frequent stops to allow us all to get the best pics. He didn’t rush us, but kept us on schedule. I can not recommend him enough.

What a fantastic tour. Craig was awesome. We were a large group - 21 people and his turquoise bus fit us all! Craig was very accommodating, knowing what sights were worth pulling over for, how to beat the other tourist companies so we could get our group pic at the “Welcome to Alaska” sign. We were so lucky to have amazing weather, blue skies, no wind, which made taking pictures of the reflection of the lake breathtaking. I swear my pictures look like they came out of a magazine. Craig even spotted a lynx and pulled over so we could take pictures. If you love nature and beauty then this tour is for you!

When we travel, we want to really experience the culture of the city and the people. That’s hard to do on a cruise since you’re in port for just a while and the shore excursions are often run by the people working for the cruise line. Our day with Craig felt like we got to see Skagway and the surrounding area through a local’s eyes. We opted for a private tour, which ended up being less that we would have paid each (party of 7) for the train ride or other tours. We also go to see so much more than those who opted for the train. We were able to see bears on the side of the road eating dandelions, play with sled dog puppies, touch the melted glacier water, and see roadside waterfalls up close. Additionally, we were able to go further into Canada, eat at a local restaurant, and see the amazing water at Emerald Lake. If we wanted to stop, Craig stopped. He was also able to make recommendations and alter or tour to meet the interest of our party, which included four kids. This was an awesome day for us and I would recommended to anyone else that wants to experience Alaska on your own terms to get off the train and onto this private tour.

Travel around Emerald lake is a beauty. Just could not stop taking pictures. I probably clicked the highest number of photos in a short window. You can take train, various tour operators and each one has its own beauty. Bus/Vans were convenient as we do not need to pay high amount and also rush for the scheduled trip.
