A wet day in Morlaix
Nov 2019
The climb up is moderate, with a helpful hand rail. There is information in French and English about the viaduct. On a good day the view is super, on a wet misty day Well!
A must if visiting the pleasant town of Morlaix

Visually imposing scenery

We visited on a market day but it was still easy to park. Stall holders were selling every type of merchandise. Lining the roads are restaurants, cafés, boulangeries and bars. Some of the roads are steep - take your time and climb them, the architecture is worth it.

Visited Morlaix whilst camping nearby in plouezoch. The viaduct is amazing, to stand underneath and look up, you are amazed at the workmanship that has gone into such a piece of architecture. Worth a look.

Very Nice Town & Imposing Viaduct
May 2018 • Couples
My wife and I recently took a walking tour in the old town part of the city. We visited several local churches, a street known for its cobbled and half-timbered houses. Also walked up to and across the viaduct with its great views of the town.

Well worth a visit.

Great view. Great exercise. Fresh air. Free. What is not to lie?

Go do it. You will need to be reasonably mobile. There are numerous (in the hundreds by I did not count) beautiful granite steps. Learn the history of the bridge and a little more about the port. Then go and have well earned crepe and cidre. Bon route.

Town and viaduct walk
Jul 2018
Directed by Tourist Info Office for this exploration of historical old town. Views from viaduct are great. Some steps to negotiate but OK if your fitness level is only average. Plenty to see on this circuit and good variety of cafes and restaurants to choose from if you want a stop-off on way around. Could be walked in appx 1.5 hours but you would not be able to properly explore nor have a meal!
Good experience, we enjoyed.

Imposing structure, beautiful backdrop to a beautiful town
Jul 2018 • Family
Went to Morlaix twice during our recent stay in Carantec. Such a beautiful town with lovely shops and restaurants. What grabs your attention though, right from the moment you look around is the viaduct. Built in just 2 years (1861-1863) the top part is still used as a train line and the bottom is a pedestrian walkway which strides over the town. The steps are a bit of an effort but totally worth it and has to be done. Each archway has its own spotlight and I just wished I could've seen how they lit it up at night as I'm sure it would've been breathtaking.
There is a lovely information board in the middle looking over the town centre with a lovely view at the Hotel de Ville opposite (another gorgeous building). There is even a little part of it giving you the details in English for those who's French isn't what it should be lol.
If there are any drawbacks they are few. The side that I scaled the steps of there was no access for our pushchair meaning it had to stay at the bottom while we made the slow climb with 2 small children (who actually really enjoyed the steps and are still young enough to see steps as fun, rather than the soul-crushing pathway to misery they truly are!). The other drawback is that like all these things, the time needed to get everything out of the experience is short, so if you were making a trip especially for the viaduct then prepare for a short stop. On the plus side, Morlaix is truly lovely and well worth spending a diverting afternoon lounging around it's shops and cafe's.
In conclusion, while the viaduct itself may not be worth going a long way out of your way for, the town of Morlaix with the viaduct and everything in it, really is!
