We had a stunning kayaking adventure in Alaska with the Seward Wilderness Collective during the Summer of 2022. The experience was extremely memorable. During the first leg, we embarked on a lengthy sea kayaking trip to an Island that was made up almost exclusively of rain forest and a small stretch of rocky beach. During the second leg, we hiked through a truly exquisite series of trails through the rain forest, and had a picnic on the beach. For our third leg, we returned to our point of departure in Seward by kayak. The Seward Wilderness Collective organized this trip and carried it out flawlessly. Our guide was highly experienced and extremely friendly. I could not have asked for a more perfect experience.

Thanks for joining us, both for a SWC hike and a paddle with our sister company, Kayak Adventures Worldwide (KAW). We love getting folks out for a combination of activities that truly showcases the best of fjord country - where the mountains meet the sea!
We appreciate you taking a moment to share your experience and recommendation with prospective guests. Come back soon!
Best,

In early August, we visited Seward and went on the Marathon Bowl Hike with Seward Wilderness Collective. Chris met us at the office and checked on all our gear to make sure we were prepared for the hike. He also gave us our lunches and snacks to carry. Our group of 4 adults and 2 kids (9 and 11) was ready to go! Chris was engaging and knowledgeable throughout the hike. Between talking with the kids about their interests and discussing climate-related books with the adults, Chris easily connected with us all. We hiked up the steep jeep trail and stopped for a delicious lunch next to a river. The rest of the hike was mostly uphill but between learning about the terrain, weather, and flora and fauna, it seemed we were up to the Marathon Bowl in no time. Once at the overlook, we stopped for some surprise hot chocolate, tea and delicious granola bars. We spent some time reflecting, writing haiku poems and just taking in the stunning views. Chris' knowledge of the land, the effect of the warming climate on the area, as well as the plants and animals we saw along the way greatly enhanced our hiking experience. When we finally made it back to the office, we had hiked a total of 6 miles and enjoyed every minute. If you want to both see incredible views as well as learn about how Alaska is faring with climate change, Seward Wilderness Collective is the company to hike with!

I took my two young adult sons on a long-awaited trip to Alaska and a hike with Claire from Seward Wilderness Collection was our most memorable experience! Claire actually read my sign up survey and knew what kind of experience I was hoping for. She was professional and kind and thoughtful. We hiked partially up Exit Glacier and saw some amazing views. The hike was the perfect difficulty level for us also. Seward Wilderness Collective is obviously a great company with knowledgeable guides. I would highly recommend SWC!

Wow, sounds like a perfect family trip. We agree that Claire is phenomenal, and I'm so happy you connected well with her. Taking a private, guided tour (rather than a big group tour) is often the difference between an experience tailored to your interests and adventure goals, and one where you're being forced to fit someone else's agenda. We love showing our backyard off to visitors in a meaningful and memorable way. We can't thank you enough for sharing about your experience here.

My family had an amazing hike with SWC guide Leni, who was incredibly knowledgeable about the area’s flora and fauna. The day hike was completely tailored to our groups ability level and Leni was very receptive to what we wanted to get out of our experience. Great food and gear provided as well. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I expected a pleasant easy walk in the woods, with some tidbits of information along the way. What I got was a very visual lesson in glacial retraction.
The forest was intoxicatingly fresh and beautiful , and the day we were there presented the possibility of seeing a moose. Our guide allowed for self-discovery, versus behind spoon-fed facts, while being there to answer any questions we had. Get to know the intimate parts of Alaska with this company. They are personalable, knowledgeable, and demonstrate a real love and respect for nature.

Loved our family tour hike of the Exit Glacier with Leni. Her background is in geology so she was able to tell us so much about the rocks, glaciers, the evolution and erosion of life on the Exit Glacier. She knew a lot about the receding glacier as well as the succession of growth and scientific aging of the glacier boundaries. The hike was at our pace and allowed us freedom to ask lots of questions and go where we were interested. Our group ranged from a 10 year old to parents/adults.

Our hike to Resurrection Bay with our guide Clair was fantastic! She was so knowledgeable of the surroundings and the eco system, I was blown away. She was also very kind and patient with us slow pokes on some of the up hill portions of the hike. I highly recommend Seward Wilderness Collective!

Your recommendation means a lot to us! We love sharing our favorite trails with visitors to Seward and teaching them about this area along the way. Our Resurrection Bay Half Day Hike does have some hills, but is overall an easy-to-moderate hike appropriate for hikers of all ages. The other reason we can tailor this trip to any adventure level is that we run all of our tours privately - so you never get grouped with other guests whose adventure goals (and pace) may differ from yours. I'm glad to hear that you learned a lot from Claire and enjoyed your day with SWC. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience here!
Best,
Hannah

I went on the Mount Marathon hike with my husband, brother, and dad in mid-August. Our guide Eric was fantastic! The hike itself provided great views. The fog crept in within minutes of us making it to the bowl, so our view did not last long, but it was pretty cool to see the transformation and watch how quickly and densely it moved in. While the hike was beautiful and a good challenge, the best part was all the laughs and time spent with my family. Eric made it so enjoyable. He was entertaining and was really knowledgeable!

We did the Resurrection Bay hike with our guide Claire. Claire was incredibly knowledgeable of the area, and we really enjoyed talking about the collective's mission and work with the community. The hike was really beautiful and loved the mix of being in the forest and by the bay. What drew us to this hike was their commitment to talking about climate change and creating awarenes of its impact in such a beautiful place like Seward. We'll definitely be booking more adventures with them when we go back.

Thanks for speaking to two of our goals at SWC: 1. Sharing stories of climate change impacts in Alaska and 2. Making sure tourism dollars benefit the community of Seward. We're looking for ways we can encourage the regenerative economy here, including our new bi-monthly summer Farmer's Market, sourcing our trip snacks locally (like our homemade granola bars from Bell Tower Bakery), and hopefully in the future providing local people and businesses with educational opportunities. We work hard to make sure our values are at the forefront of our communication, and we're so glad they resonated with you and your group. Thanks for sharing your experience here, we can't tell you how much it means to us!
With gratitude,
Hannah
