This trip was my favorite part of our Alaska trip. I joined the boat tour hoping to see animals, but not EXPECTING to see anything. Within the first hour, we were fortunate enough to find porpoises racing and playing with our boat. Shortly after that, we saw sea otters, seals, bald eagles and sea lions. We were absolutely blessed to see humpback whales and orcas as well. There were ten of us on our tour, so we contracted a private tour. If you have the group and can afford it, I highly recommend it. We had the combination sightseeing and fishing tour. The fishing was my kind of fishing....the captain did everything for us, by preparing the fishing lines and baiting them. All we had to do was drop the lines in the water and reel in the fish. I got my allotted four fish very quickly, usually within the first minute of dropping the line in the water. The captain took the fish off the line, and when it was time, gutted and cleaned the fish for us. This fishing experience is the way to go if you want to feel like a fisherman, but have no experience at all. Even my 76 year old mother-in-law caught the very first fish of her life! We had such a great time. Thank you Stan, Tammy and Brenda!

Let me start off by saying the three crew members were very kind and wanted to make sure we took good photos. However I would not do the combination trip again. It felt rushed like we were trying to get to everything. The muffins are tiny finger food so definitely get something to eat before. The boat is slower than the huge ones you see and the other tiny ones so it takes awhile to get places. Not a big deal but a lot of time is spent traveling to and back. It was great seeing all the wildlife. My issue was when we saw the humpback whales. We saw them for maybe 5 minutes so we could get closer to the glacier, eat lunch there, and then go fish real quick at the end. Another passenger was visibly upset when we drove past the whales after one or two photos. Yes they dive and it takes awhile but that was disappointing. When we went fishing, I was told ahead of time we would fish for rockfish, halibut, and salmon. I had emailed for clarification. It was very clear on the boat that we would only be catching rockfish so I felt mislead. You have to anchor offshore for the halibut and we were too early for salmon. However when I emailed they said if the salmon are biting we will catch them. On the boat we literally fished for 30 minutes and it was the really easy rockfish that takes seconds to catch. My husband and I both caught the limit. When it was time to head back they put our fish in scented trash bags and gave them all to the other 2 groups. We asked about our fish and they went and got a group that got off and gave us a few but not all of what we caught. They got confused on who was in each group. They said the restaurant Apollos will cook the fish but they were closed. Surprised they didn’t know that. They also told me in an email that they will package and ship the fish but we had to go to Jacks to do that. Jacks was easy to work with but just another thing that was misleading. I was happy with the wildlife viewing except rushing past the humpback whales. We saw orcas earlier and stayed with them longer. I would just choose wildlife by itself or fishing by itself and I would have been happier than a combination. The fishing is just not what I was looking for and it was rushed with the wildlife viewing. The cabin is small and does not fit everyone. Some people stayed in there the whole time so we were mostly outside. It was a nice day except when you’re cold by the glacier. My expectations from the emails I sent for clarification on the fishing were not what was reality when we arrived.

We had such a great day out with Jim on his small boat and a total of 4 guests. It was a unique experience glacier viewing from a small craft and the accompanying wildlife viewing was extraordinary. We certainly saw an abundance of whales and being in the midst of a pod of Orca hunting in a small boat was both humbling and unforgettable. We loved Jim's company and stories which served to make this trip a really great day out. Our lunch was also excellent and we appreciated having delicious homemade deli sandwiches and cookies. It's often the personal touch that makes for a great day out and this trip certainly provided this. Highly recommended.

We visited Seward in May 2022 and booked a small boat tour experience with Alaska Saltwater. Captain Stan and his staff, (Brooke) made sure we had an unforgettable day. They were kind, knowledgeable and fun! We loved getting out the see wildlife (otters, dolphins, porpoises, humpback whales, seals, sea lions, eagles) and Holgate Glacier. We would book again with them in a heartbeat! Thank you for such a lovely day.

Took my wife, son, and daughter-in-law on an all day, combination wildlife viewing/fishing tour. Despite iffy weather -- heavy fog in Seward and potential 6-7 foot swells outside Resurrection Bay -- we were able to go as planned, and we had a great time. We met at 7:30am in front of the Lighthouse Cafe and Bakery. We got lucky, and it was only the four of us, Captain Stan, and Deckhand Kathy on a small boat (I think the Stellar Eagle). They had muffins and sodas/water waiting for us when we came aboard. Stan and Kathy are terrific, and we enjoyed getting to know them a little and learning a lot from them about the wildlife, the glacier, the fish, etc. They did a great job of finding a variety of animals -- humpback whales, otters, sea lions, seals, puffins, kittiwakes, etc. The swells were not as bad as feared, so we were able to hustle around the Cape and into the Holgate Arm, where we found more wildlife and stopped for lunch in front of the Holgate Glacier. They provided a delicious lunch of turkey sandwiches and chips, and the scenery was great. The fishing was just as good and fun. We trolled and caught several pink salmon, silver salmon, and rockfish. We had most of it frozen at Captain Jack's and took it home as a carry-on on the plane. At Stan's suggestions, we took some of the rockfish and silver salmon to the Apollo Restaurant in Seward, where they cooked it for us -- so good. Thanks again, Stan and Kathy and Alaska Saltwater Lodge for such a great time on the water!
