The Hula Kai trip was as good as usual. Staff willing to assist and looking for whales a top priority. However, the breakfast and lunch are TERRIBLE. The meals are vegan and particularly awful. What used to be a beef burger, lots of salads and sides, and a cookie, is now 2 fluffy buns with a concoction of ulu (breadfruit) and jackfruit inside, which I left, a salad without dressing (although I did see it later, even though it was not offered) and an ulu potato salad that was inedible, along with purple potato chips, which could break one's teeth. Followed by a cookie I didn't taste, as it was vegan. Breakfast was offered which my friends said was oatmeal, although it is written up as muesli. I didn't partake. If the owner wants to offer vegan food, that's fine, but please offer an alternative that is not vegan. The food was not diabetic friendly. In addition, the coffee was barely warm, and even less so after adding either soy milk or almond milk. Powdered milk in packets was, I believe, an option. If I ever join the cruise again, I will bring my own breakfast and lunch, if the menu doesn't change. And please offer HOT coffee with dairy creamer (or do I have to bring that, too?).
