Since the day the Big Island Country Club opened to rave reviews in 1997, it has been on the "must play" list of the golfing visitor to Hawaii's Big Island. That's not only because of its spectacular location and scenic beauty, but equally because of its well-deserved reputation as a course that welcomes both the novice player as well as the low-handicap expert. The course is simultaneously enjoyable yet challenging, and is designed for every level of playing ability. Designed by famed golf course architect Perry Dye, son of Pete Dye, the par 72 course has all the popular attributes and interesting features that make his layouts so popular to golfers of varying skills: wide, gently rolling bermuda grass fairways, medium-size undulating Bent grass greens, and an abundance of water.

This is just a fun golf course. The layout is not overly demanding but will keep your attention. It is a bear-bones course. There is no club house but the pro shop is adequate for most needs. Entry to the course is beautiful. Course conditions are about on par with everything except the top-tier public courses on the island. The... More

Booked two lessons with Laurie, the course was great. Tough but in good condition. Wind in the late afternoon. Would book again with Laurie!

We played BI cc twice because we enjoyed it so much. Its cooler than down near the coast, the course layout is interesting and the wildlife may seem strange but really fun. Staff where helpful and friendly. Its not a resort type course and it does need some $$ spent on it but new owners should fix that. The cost is... More

This course is a little out of the way, but worth the drive. You will not find better golf value on the BI. A truly beautiful course, just challenging enough to keep everyone interested. Be aware, there is no real clubhouse, since the place is in development. Rumor has it that the developers ran out of funding half way through... More

Beautiful setting. Water on several holes but manageable if the golfer is careful. The animals also make it fun; Goats, sheep (lawn mowers) turkeys, Nenes, Guinea Hens, and Pheasants.

Played the Big Island CC on St. Patty's Day and it is everything we remember from prior visits except Ahab was no longer to be seen. He/she was the one legged nene on the 9th hole. Checkin was easy, cart staff very helpful, price was very reasonable at $79 and exceptional sales values on golf apparel (50% off on Tail,... More

The golf at Big Island is really great fun..the added bonus is all the animals and birds..goat babies being born, turkeys all over chasing the females with tail feathers fanned...on and on.... The course itself is low key, but well maintained.. The only drawback is the practice area, and the lack of food unless you get things out of a... More

My husband and I played at the end of the day and only 9 holes. It was wonderful! At the end of the day, it wasn't very busy and we pretty much had the place to ourselves! Each hole had something different a beautiful about it. There is also a variety of wildlife that roam around the course, not just... More

We golfed here a few days ago. A bit of advice about prices: online shows $66 per person after 2 p.m. for 18 holes. To get that price you have to book it online. The club house will charge you $79. They told us after 3 it's $66 for 9 holes. Also check the local tour guides as some have... More
