Captain Manu was our guide for the Kona Snorkel (Kealakekua Bay & the Place of Refuge). He was super friendly, knowledgable, and actively interacted with guests and ensured everyone had a great time. He told us the history of the places we visited from a Hawaiian perspective and I couldn't be more grateful. He gave us quite a few tips for the reefs we would be snorkeling in and answered many questions we didn't even know we want to know. I had trouble with a snorkel I brought on the trip and he was able to help me swap it out without me having to get out of the water - a huge plus to optimize as much snorkeling time as possible! His primary concern was everyone's safety, but definitely knew how to have fun. He encouraged some of the kids that were on our trip to steer the boat, engaged the adults in great conversation, and taught us a lot about Hawaiian history, the reefs we visited, and how to be respectful to the animals & environment. We saw what we thought was a dolphin and Manu encouraged us to spot out wildlife and immediately stopped for us to check in and it was something even better! A tiger shark chasing prey! Definitely not a guarantee, but a nice addition.
We went on quite a few tours on this trip and Manu was the best guide we had throughout. Our visibility in the water for fantastic (at least 60+ feet), the reefs were healthy, and the fish plentiful.
