My wife and I realized that we would have gotten to the airport much too early based on when we left and we pulled up google maps and randomly round Mrs. Barry's and said, "why not". We thought we were lost because it appeared we drive into a business complex but when we saw Mrs. Barry's and went in. A woman who works nearby was buying enough cookies for her worksite (or she was VERY hungry) and was chatting with the person behind the counter in a familiar way. I am always happy to find the non-touristy spot that locals enjoy, and Mrs. Barry's did not disappoint. I good amount of the cookies did not make it back to the mainland because my wife and I ate them on the flight! A good, albeit out of the way, stop for some yummy cookies.

Located in an industrial area near Costco and the airport, this cookie shop makes the best chocolate-dipped (milk or dark) shortbread cookies. There is a small parking lot or you can find street parking. It was our 1st time visit, so we bought both types of choco-dipped shortbread cookies and a bag of mixed cookies (to try the variety) for omiyage to family on the mainland. OMG, everyone went nuts (no pun intended) for the shortbread cookies! Although pricey ~$1/cookie, they are the most authentic & delicious treats from HI. Make sure you bring enough back because your friends/family will be clamoring for them and they will be gone in no time. There is no shop in Honolulu but you can buy these cookies online. We gassed up our car rental at Costco, stopped by Mrs. Barry before heading to the airport. They survived the flight in our hand-luggage. However, next time, we will have to check them in else they'll be eaten up on the flight home.

I cook and bake and I find most bakery cookies to be too sweet. I like rich, but restrain the sugar so that it isn’t dominant. Hello Mrs. Barry’s Kona Cookies. These are pricey (but what isn’t in Hawai’i) but they are good about 1 1/2 dozen flavours to choose from. Not having the ingredients or inclination to bake in Hawai’i, these are the next best thing to top notch home made cookies. Mrs. Barry’s is located in the same commercial/industrial park that Costco is in - in fact, from HI-19 you have to go right past Mrs. Barry’s to get to Costco. So with the savings you get from Costco on gas, liquor and other basics, splurge on some Mrs. Barry’s Kona Cookies.

Was looking to see if the Honolulu Cookie Company was on the island to get something for my friend and was sad to not find it. Amazingly, I spotted this little gem on the way to Costco. Glad we stopped by. Love that you can sample almost all the varieties. You can purchase individually or get them by the box. If you like crispy on the outside, this is your place. These cookies are not the soft and gooey kind. I tend to like those type more, but I really enjoyed these despite me typically not liking crispy. Highly recommend you make a stop here if you like cookies! I really think they are the best in Kona!

this is a must stop when coming into Kona. I always buy several bags to take home as souvenir Food snacks. My favorite is the chocolate chip with macadamia nuts and a quarter coffee with macadamia nuts
