About Eka Canoe Adventures
Eka Canoe Adventures specializes in reef and manta ray snorkeling adventures with a cultural touch. One of a few historically accurate Hawaiian double-hulled canoes, Wa'a Kini Kini is your unique gateway to the waters of the Kona coastline. Regarded by the Travel Channel as one of the most thrilling experiences on earth, here you can catch a front-row "swim" as magnificent manta rays dance in the deep. They can weigh more than 1,000 lbs and span more than 15 feet! Fear not... mantas only filter feed. The manta ray night snorkel experience is simply not one to miss. Not to be overlooked, there's simply nothing quite like snorkeling over some of the most beautiful reefs Hawaii has to offer. With a perfect blend of sun, sea, and sail, our Pawai snorkel adventure offers a few relaxing hours on the ocean and an underwater ecosystem you'll never want to leave.

This was probably one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. First, it was super fun going out to the snorkel area in a canoe versus a big boat. The canoe is motorized and probably isn’t what you’re thinking of when you hear the word canoe - it kind of reminded me of the fishing boats in Moana and really had the traditional Hawaiian vibe to it versus a basic tourist boat. This is probably due to the fact that this tour company is Hawaiian owned and operated! We were happy to be supporting the locals rather than a franchise. Anyway! The tour itself was incredibly and very well controlled. The crew was amazing and had a great sense of humor while still maintaining a high level of concern for safety of all passengers. The crew was very well organized in ensuring everyone had the proper gear as well as proper understanding of how to use it, and went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great time. It was only a matter of minutes before we saw manta rays along with other fish and bioluminescence. Before going on the tour I read the few lower rated reviews and I feel that it is worth mentioning that in all of those reviews, I saw the captain and crew working their hardest to eliminate any of the prior issues guests have had while also working hard to mitigate any new issues or bumps. This company really goes above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great time. We will definitely be using them when we are back in Kona and will recommend them to all of our friends. Our crew was a male captain, Kai, and another male crew member.

This was the best adventure ever! Kalani and crew were so accommodating! Very concerned for safety, making you feel comfortable, and making it so much fun! It was also a very intimate small group which I was much more comfortable being on the motorized canoe verses a big catamaran!!! The crew was so amazing their strength getting us around in the water on the long board. I really like the prompt attention to texting and follow up phone call to make sure your pickup destination was sent to you correctly!! Best job guys!! Will be back next year!!! The Berg family from northern California

Repeat customer is always a good sign. This is the second time we have gone out with Eka. Always a magical experience . We are very involved in nature conservation and I have filmed animal experts all over the world. Our crews knowledge and professionalism was outstanding. We plan on doing this with Eka again on our return to the Big Island

It was a treat seeing those magnificent creatures. However, safety measures were deplorable. The pier where we had to meet was unlit. Getting on and off the canoe was downright dangerous. Pax had to transfer from the wharf to the canoe when it was rocking a lot and with no ramp, go to the centre board on hands and knees or bottom, then slide down into the trough on the side that had little boxes in it. Getting out of the canoe in reverse was even more dangerous with pax having to stand on their little box seat, use a toe hold in the side of the wharf then get up on it. We were told the snorkel gear was cleaned between trips with Simple Green. That is not sufficient in these Covid times. The canoe picked us up late and we were deposited earlier than the one hour time frame for the trip. The cost of $319.8US for 3 people on such a basic, unsafe canoe on a shortened trip was exorbitant.
