I randomly came across this boat while looking at options for Marlin fishing in Kona. This boat looked much nicer and updated compared to many other options. Pricing was also very fair compared to other options.
5 others and I went out for a day of Marlin fishing with Captain James. The boat was very nice, clean and well equipped. James is an excellent captain and was very knowledgeable on the fishing in Kona. The deckhand Trip was really fun and was so good with the two kids we had with us. Having recently moved to Kona I am so happy I found this boat and Capt. James. Now I know who I will call again when we have people visiting.
We had a great time and would highly recommend this for anyone looking to fish and see the beauty Kona has to offer from the sea.
I will for sure be chartering again with Blue Hawaii! I highly recommend this boat!

Captain James and Deckhand Rob were amazing - we did a 6hr fishing charter - 2 teenage boys. Lines were in the water within 3 minutes of leaving the dock. Totally amazing as I fish offshore in Texas. The generator was not working when we went, but honestly, we never spent more than a few minutes in the salon as the bridge had the best view of the island with a nice breeze. So do not let that deter anyone. Captain James and Rob know what they are doing and have quality gear. They worked with the teenage boys and within 1.5 hrs had us hooked up with a Blue Marlin. Unfortunately, we did not hook up again, but that is offshore fishing. 6hrs passed by quickly with great conversations and restaurant recommendations. I would easily recommend Captain James and would definitely book him again.

Whether you're looking for that perfect fishing experience or just a nice ride on an awesome yacht with great company, The Blue Hawaii is the charter to use!
We couldn't have asked for a better experience for our 3 generation family of 6. During our recent trip to Hawaii, we booked an 8 hour fishing trip. (This was nothing like the fishing that I've done in the past.) This 52 foot yacht was clean and had all of the comforts of home.
We couldn't have asked for a nicer crew to spend the day with in Captain James and First Mate Tobin. We had a great fishing day, catching and releasing 3 large Blue Marlins (100-350 lbs each). First Mate Tobin was very patient helping our 7 and 8 year old grandchildren catch their own bait fish; which put up quite a fight!
If I could give this review a 10, I certainly would. I highly recommend this charter and crew and will certainly rebook with them, should we return.
Thank you Captain James and First Mate Tobin for helping us create such wonderful memories!

We had so much fun with Captain James and Tobin. We caught 3 Marlin (biggest was 350lbs!) and they made my kids day by stopping and letting them catch bait fish. They were so good and patient with the kids, especially my 7 year old daughter who never stops asking questions. I could not be happier. Thank you both for an INCREDIBLE day we will never forget!

My wife and I wanted to spend some time fishing and sight seeing and found the Blue Hawaii charter. From the moment we arrived Captain James and his ship mate Toben made us feel right at home. They ensured we were comfortable and understood the process when deep sea fishing. The boat is first class, with an air conditioned cabin. The boat was clean and they put us on fish. We brought home some fresh Mahi Mahi. Grilled it for dinner - it was awesome. Would definitely recommend this charter and we will book again on our next visit to the big island.

We just had an unbelievable experience with Captain James and Tobin on their beautiful boat. I had fished before and so had my son (17), so we knew the deal, but it was the first time for my wife and daughter (14). It was slow to start, but they used the time to provide us with some lessons and education so that we were ready. About three hours into the trip we were all sleeping and the Captain came to make some lunch when Tobin yelled "Fish" and we got to work. My 14-year daughter was up first and jumped into the seat. Over the next forty minutes, James and Tobin expertly coached my daughter and maneuvered the boat as she fought with a 500+ plus Blue Marlin. Tobin worked with my daughter to make sure that she knew what to do and when to do it, even as this massive fish jumped out of the water and tried everything it could to get away. As the fish got closer you could really see the experience kick in, the Marlin tried to go under the boat which often makes the line snap, but the Captain made sure we were always going faster than the Marlin so it stayed behind us. When the Marlin was tired he backed up the board to shorten the line and make it easier to take in line. When she finally got the Marlin close to the board Tobin was able to bring it gently to the side so we could take pictures and release it. They were almost as happy as us to see my daughter bring the fish in. Highly recommend that anybody in Kona that wants to fish should try Blue Hawaii.

Blue Hawaii Fishing Charters
My husband booked me a fishing trip on May 8 on Blue Hawaii for my 50th birthday. We were fortunate to receive a recommendation to contact Captain James Dean and Tobin with Blue Hawaii- you could tell that these guys were experienced and knew their stuff! They gave us a safety lesson and a run through if we did catch a fish. I found James and Tobin to be realist, nice, and friendly. The boat had top-of-the-line fishing gear/rods & reels and well equipped with a good selection of fishing lures. The boat is beautiful, newly renovated seats, nice cabin with AC, nice functional kitchen, very comfortable sofa, and the washroom was neat and clean enough for the ladies. The day started watching a school of dolphins swim by first thing in the morning.. Then we went out a few miles into the ocean. I was enjoying the sights and scenery all the Ocean had to offer waiting to hear the sound of a screaming reel when the fish hit. Tobin was on the ball, went with me step-by-step, set me up in the chair and handed me the rod and got me to start reeling. It took me about 45 minutes to reel in the Marlin. We watched the marlin dance and run across the water fighting to break free several times, how exhilarating. I felt like giving up a few times due to exhaustion but Tobin encouraged me and I was finally able to reel in the Marlin. We took plenty of pictures and then released her back into the ocean. Capt James’s boating skills where second to none. Next time we go to Hawaii we will definitely be rebooking with Blue Hawaii, Capt James Dean and Tobin. Thank you so much for such memorable 50th Birthday- you guys “Rock”!

I did lots of research and chose Blue Hawaii for our fishing excursion. Captain James and Tobin are as nice as they come and were a pleasure to chat with. The boat is gorgeous - large and well appointed, so you can comfortably sit inside and be cool/get out of the sun. Great equipment too.
Unfortunately, we didn’t catch anything — and were disappointed, as was James. We did fish for about 5 hours (paid for 4) in hopes of finding some fish. However, my expectations were set appropriately as it’s fishing, not catching.
My only regret is that we should have spent more time in the shallower waters for ono as at least one boat was successful in catching them.

Captain James and his first mate were friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell that they really love what they do and they want their guests to have a great time.
The boat is in great shape and really rode well in spite of some unusually rough waters.
The cost for a full day, was reasonable. Those of us who’ve run our own boats know how the expenses add up.
We hooked up twice but weren’t able to land either. In spite of this, the experience was excellent.

We booked Blue Hawaii for a full day charter. We landed two Blues both about 6ft long and 200lbs.
Captain James was laid back, easy going, welcoming and we had great conversations. His first mate, Tobin gets all the hard work done and gives excellent instruction on technique. My wife was very nervous about sitting in the chair with a marlin on. He encouraged her along and gave great tips and support as she landed her fish.
Blue Hawaii is a gorgeous 52 ft boat that is super comfortable. This experience was so great.
We'll be coming back for sure.
