This tour was one of the highlights of our trip! We booked the Sunset Tour and just being on the Salt Farm grounds was marvelous -- so beautiful. The tour was more than an hour and started with all of us being given water and encouraged to put drops of magnesium in the water; the magnesium was sold there. The tour guide Ipo explained the health benefits of the magnesium but we never felt like we were being "sold." Then we were invited to walk around the gift shop or have a seat on a beautiful deck while we waited for everyone to arrive. Then we all walked over to an inside room with one completely open wall (so you felt you were outside) to all sit down and hear the history of the salt farm. Very interesting! And the room was lovely, very pretty. Then we walked down to the beach, then to the other area of the farm where the salt was in various levels of processing. It was all interesting and Ipo was gregarious, friendly, welcoming and kept our interest! Thank you!

We live on the island but this was our first time to tour. We try to live like tourists from time to time to make sure we are enjoying all there is to offer. This was a well done tour and a good value. We enjoyed the history and cultural information provided and the tour was well paced. Even though the tour was at noon, parasols were provided and we were in and out if the shade. Water was also provided. The tasting was interesting and we couldn’t help but make a few purchases for our enjoyment and adventure at home. I hope all locals and visitors add this stop to their list of things to do and see!

We got here too late to take the tour, but Ellie, who was one of the guides, very kindly opened up the shop for us, and told us a lot about the place and how the salt was harvested. She was very informative and we enjoyed talking to her.
Also really appreciated the nice clean bathrooms.
The place is a little hard to find, though, and we almost passed it. FYI Makako Drive is only accessible from the southbound lane of the highway.

We enjoyed the friendly and accommodating staff, especially Angie. She went above all expectations when we were deciding on what to purchase. She hosted tasting of the different products with fresh fruit and sorted our purchases for shipping! Angie displayed true aloha spirit!

Mahalo!

Looking forward to our next visit!

Our family of 6 had a wonderful visit to the Kona Salt Farm! We did not schedule a tour but dropped in. The staff was so hospitable and helpful. We were offered tomatoes, cucumber, and pineapple to use to sample the salts. All were Excellent! The store offered a wonderful selection and a staff member was available to answer all of our questions.

Completely unexpected was an invitation for a complimentary foot soak. The water is pumped up from the Pacific and it was COLD! This was such a fun experience for our entire family!

I highly recommend you check out this place! I will book the sunset tour on my next visit! The view is spectacular!

This is a great little outing fr an hour or two. Very knowledgeable explanation of how salt is distilled from the ocean depths plus a little bit of history and some salt tastings. Worth the $25.

The tour guide was pleasant but the tour needs improvement. Hopefully they will add more visuals. A video or pictures documenting the history of the property and diagrams on the salt farming process would be helpful. (That you could look at in the shade!) There just wasn't much to see while standing around in the hot sun. It was hard to pay attention to all the bits and pieces of information she had to share.

The guide gave us cool water to drink and offered parasols to shade us in the heat. At the end of the tour, we were able to sit in the shade and taste different types of salt by adding it to fruits and vegetables. Of course, there was also an opportunity to buy salt products in the shop. She kindly let us stay after the talk to eat our lunch on the patio.

The six-year-old with us was hot and bored. Be warned: This is not geared for children at all. For adults, the sunset tour might be a better choice than the midday one. It isn’t a tour I’d recommend unless you have run out of things to do.

It was a great learning experience I had no idea how involved mining the salt actually is. The tour guide was great, very informative. The farm is loacted on beautuful property near a beauriful beach. The beauty itself was worth the trip. Everyone was so pleasnt and nice. At the end we got to sample a variety of salt, whihc was fun!

Our lovely, knowledgeable and fun guide (I can’t remember her name, sorry, but she has been working for this business for many years)h explained how their sea salt is made from deep ocean water, thus being very rich in minerals. She also introduced our small group to the meaning of salt in the Hawaiian culture. Every stop (and related talk) were well spaced between “cruel” Hawai’i sun ans shaded areas.
A nice feature was walking on the shoreline protecting ourselves with a cute “old times”parasol, which gave us beautiful photo opportunities.
At the end of the tour we were invited to taste some flavored salt; no need to say we purchased a few Kona salts to bring home as a nice memento of a great tour.
It’s a niche tour, but we would highly recommend it, also for families with kids … and elderly people.

Interesting, informative, educational and Tasty. It's worth the price just to learn about the water.
