Went out on an 8 hour trip with captain Al and first mate John, and immediately recognized the amount of experience between the two of them. I was able to understand there techniques and the true art of billfishing, and I believe that the crew on Topshape has nearly perfected it. Though some people may describe it as a ride... More

My journey to catch a Marlin started about 7 years ago, and has taken me to some of the best fishing waters around the world. From South/Central America, Caribbean, Baja and Kona once before, unfortunately with no success. Needless to say, I've been on a lot of fishing boats. TOPSHAPE is by far the best fishing vessel I've ever been... More

1st class charter service all the way. My 3rd charter on the big island of Hawaii, and this was by far my my best experience. Fishing reports all were reported as fairly slow, we knew that going in. Sign of a good captain(he gets you on fish even when it's slow!) Boat- wow perfect. Stabilizer took some roughness out of... More

This was my third high stakes big game Marlin tournament in Kona The Firecracker Open and 2nd with Captain Al and the Topshape crew. I not leaving a review for Topshapes next potential charter (already done that last year) but would rather comment on the two recent reviews who appeared to have a negative experience. Their were two reviews with... More

Outstanding day on the water with Captain Al and John! Boat was amazing...closer to a luxury yacht than a fishing boat. A/C in the main cabin, gyro to minimize the roll of the boat, constant breeze on the top deck...simply amazing. Our son caught a 250 lb Marlin when we were 2 hours out. Fish topped the water just like... More

First the good news. The boat was exceptional. No expense spared. Beautiful, very comfortable, air conditioned and antiseptically clean for a fishing vessel (must remove your shoes while aboard unless you have white boating shoes). The captain and first mate were nice and accommodating (just a hint of aloofness from captain). Based on their bio I'm confident they knew what... More

Chris, Thanks for the Compliments on the Topshape. Now to your complaints. I will answer each of them to inform the tripadvisor community. - The idea that we circled endlessly is truly a false claim. If I do a circle it is because I have a reason too . But, to claim that is all I did is not true.... More

We have been on several fishing charters, mainly east coast trips and were very excited for this trip. Never have we not caught anything. We were skunked and it didn't appear that the captain or the mate were trying very hard to change that situation. We basically went on a 6 hour cruise, circling the waters outside the harbor. After... More

Dear Jujumom, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience to the fantastic tripadvisor community. I am glad you recognized that the "boat is beautiful, equipment top notch , crew professional". I believe the "aloof" was the intensity we have when we fish. Over the many years of fishing in beautiful Kona I have learned to fish areas... More

Had a great day out on the Hawaiian waters with Captains Al and John. To start, the boat was in great condition, fully air conditioned and equipped with a satellite TV and plenty of room. The fishing equipment was all top notch, and the boat even had a gyroscope to greatly reduce the sway of the boat. They were very... More

We went out on the boat for a full day with John and Al. Both captains seemed extremely knowledgeable and were very friendly! Overall we had a great experience with TOPSHAPE and would recommend it to anyone looking to go sea fishing!

Searched the internet for hours prior to booking with Topshape, keep coming back because of reviews and how good the boat looked. I emailed Capt Al several times with various questions and he always responded quickly and with patience and detail, I finally called him to talk and specify that we were really interested in trying to catch Ono and...
