Katie was our tour guide and she was amazing and very knowledgeable about the history and local farming. Telling us the stories of legends along with the toured places made it even more interesting. Definitely recommend this for all ages.

Hawaii is even more beautiful then I expected. Saw dolfins, wales and turtles just from the beach. The sunsets are incredible, it’s the best spot to snorkel and the volcano National Park is stunning!! (Must visit) The tourguides were awesome! Had such a great time! Thank you Clare and Bryce.

I researched at least 20 tours before choosing this one. I had high expectations for this tour and it exceeded them all! Great information about Hawaii's history and culture. The tour skips the lame tourist traps like Coral City and goes to the best sights. Our amazing guide Bryce gave great recommendations of where to go at each stop. He called our orders in advance for Giovanni's shrimp truck so we skipped the long line - btw the shrimp scampi lived up to the hype (bring cash as it's cash only). He pointed out whales at our scenic stops. I never felt rushed at any time. We went everywhere: Hanauma Bay, the Macadamian nut farm where you can taste samples of the sweets and coffee or grab a freshly cut coconut to sip on, Sunset Beach where we saw some of a paddle board competition, a park in the Northshore with amazing views of Chinaman's hat, Kualoa Ranch, another small beach where we saw two see turtles sunning themselves, a little town in Northshore where I got tiger's blood shaved ice, and lastly Dole pineapple plantation to taste delicious fresh pineapple. You aren't just a face in the crowd in this small intimate tour. The small group allowed for lots of time sightseeing instead of loading and unloading a giant bus or waiting on late people. I can't recommend it enough. And they give you a sweet gift at the end. Don't think twice about booking. You will thank yourself!

The tour guide/ bus driver was quite good. She knew a lot of history, but each stop was definitely meant to sell you something. She recommended something (must try the...) at each stop to eat or drink. The trip did hit highlights along the coast but the only thing you had time for at the pineapple plantation and the macadamia nut farm was to buy something. You did not see ANYTHING but the gift shops.

Aloha! Thank you for the time you took to write a review of our tour! I'm so happy that your tour guide knew a lot of history of the island. It also seems like you were happy to see the highlights. I wanted to respond to the comment that this tour has too many commercial stops: We instruct our guides to let our guests know what are the highlights of the stops. For many people visiting Hawaii these things are food so we mention what food is available at the stop and try hard to stress other things to see that don't include spending money. For example when we go to Dole pineapple plantation we mention that the Dole whip is popular but also the free pineapple cutting demonstration where you learn how to choose a ripe pineapple and cut it properly (with free samples), visit the Koi pond, see the pineapple garden, look at the painted eucalyptus and don't forget the restroom before we leave. Now we did mention the Dole whip because there is often a line and if we don't instruct our guests we might not be able have the time to order the popular dessert. This tour picks up guests from multiple spots in Waikiki around 8 am and don't have a stop where you can buy an item until about 10:30 am. We do our best to show you sights that are interesting and would be on your list if you went around the island but apologize if this felt too commercial to you. We list all of the sights where we stop so recommend that you look at the itinerary closely when choosing a tour. Come back to us with a private tour next time and we promise not to stop at a single place that offers items for sale. Mahalo for being our guest!

This is a tour which gives a thorough overview of Oahu at a price which is unbeatable. If fortunate enough to get Bryce as your guide, you will be treated to a wealth of knowledge. We were picked up early in the day and from that moment on were in the hands of a man who is funny, natural and generous. We were a small group of four and very diverse in our activity levels, but no prob, Bryce was able to manage this with gracious aplomb. If you want a tour with depth of history about Hawaii, great rest stops with the best tips on where to visit, buy and eat, but not much time to explore, this is for you. The day flew by, and even hoaky was turned into fun with a sense of humor. When at the tourist trap Dole plantation, walk right through the store, get out back and explore the gardens in peace and solitude while the hordes are loading up on trinkets, candy and ice cream. You won't be sorry. Oh, and take his suggestion on getting the best shaved ice for 3 bucks that two people can barely finish.

I just came back from a very busy, informative tour around Oahu and thoroughly enjoyed it especially with our guide “Cousin Shorts”. He was funny and very knowledgeable about Oahu and its’ history. The scenery was spectacular from its’ lush green foliage, colourful flowers and a spectrum of ocean blues.
Sincerely,
Grace

I booked this tour beginning of August and was in contact with the company by email as requested.I was informed that there was a lack of support for the tour but seldom did they have to cancel a tour.I responded that in the event of the tour not being available on my date I was prepared to be flexible and go on one of three other tours on my prescribed date.On the eve of my touring day with the company I received a message at my hotel late in the day(by the time I got it their office was closed - also email - to say the tour had been cancelled. And there was no notification to say they had booked me on one of the three tours I had given them as an alternative.. So I was absolutely shattered being left on the brink at the proverbial last minute. Thanks to the concierge at the Fairmont Hotel at 7.am the next morning I was secured a place on a similar tour with another company on the day requested. My main grouse is that the cancellation notice was far too late and that they didn't attempt to supply an alternative. No - certainly won't be recommending Hawaii Outdoor Tours.

Katie is a phenomenal tour guide. She asked what we would like to see (when I booked the reservation) then gave us an itinerary. We decided on 2 waterfalls, black sand beach, volcano, and Kaumana Caves. We got poured on at Akaka Falls but she said it was the best waterfall she has seen. She was totally prepared; an umbrella for me, a raincoat for my husband...she is super knowledgeable and a great person to spend the day with. We crammed a lot into 12 hours. I would definitely use her again!

Thank you, Katie!

First off, our tour guide Clare was wonderful and obviously put in a lot of effort to learn about the island and provided us lots of information on our tour. We also appreciated the small tour size which ended up being just our group of 5. But, this tour was not as described on Trip Advisor which is where we booked through.

This is what the tour description says:
Visit a coffee plantation
Next, stop at Punaluu Beach Park.
Once at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, take a short hike with your guide.
Walk through a naturally formed lava tube and walk to the rim of Halemaumau Crater.
As the sun sets, the crater emits an orange glow from the lava lake inside.
The trip includes a stop for a dinner of soup served with bread and dessert.
After dinner, board the vehicle for the journey back to your hotel.

This is a description of our actual trip and rough timeline:

9am - pick-up at our condo in Kailua-Kona
15 minute drive to Greenwell Coffee Farm
45 minute visit at Greenwell Coffee Farm
90 minute drive to Punalu'u Bake Shop
40 minute lunch (sandwiches/salads) at Punalu'u Bake Shop
20 minute drive to Punalu'u Beach Park
20 minute visit at Punalu'u Beach Park where we saw a green sea turtle resting on the black sand beach
60 minute drive to Volcanoes National Park
2 hours visit to VNP -
This is where the day completely diverges from the stated itinerary.
We did not walk through a naturally formed lava tube and walk to the rim of Halemaumau Crater at VNP.
We drove Chain of Craters Road, saw Kilauea Iki Crater, steam vents, and gift shop.
We enjoyed our visit at VNP and Clare did a nice job of showing us the sights.
After this stop we were given the option of visiting Kaumana Caves in Hilo, but we declined as we had already made a full day trip over to Hilo and visited the caves along with other Hilo sights.
But, we proceeded to drive to Hilo anyway. We expected the trip to end with the soup dinner and return to Kailua-Kona. We did not want to go to Hilo again and spend all that time driving, but the trip continued...
60 minute drive to Rainbow Falls (Hilo)
20 minute visit to Rainbow Falls
10 minute drive to Ken's House of Pancakes
90 minute dinner at Ken's House of Pancakes that none of us really wanted
2 hour drive back to Kailua-Kona

So, time spent driving and eating = 505 minutes or 8.5 hours
Time spent doing things - 205 minutes or 3.5 hours

Ultimately, unless you really want to spend lots of time driving and eating, I would recommend seeing these sights on your own

It was lovely to be in a small group of travellers in an air conditioned mini van. Kate our tour leader and bus driver was most informative and could answer any questions we had. We visited lots of places along the way and it's a good way to find out what places you want to re visit on your own.
