Captain Brett and Chris were great. Professional and helpful. Stayed longer out there trying to help us catch more. They worked hard for us to get the best chance possible out there. We also appreciated that we had privacy and they weren’t talking to us non stop. Our family went

Brett and Chris were excellent hosts. We told them what our target species was and they made sure that we caught exactly what we were hoping for. They have a wealth of knowledge and are excellent and patient teachers. The boat was very comfortable and well equipped with top

Firstly I don't like to write negative reviews, but after emailing my concerns to Humdigger and not receiving a reply I feel I need to share my experience. So Humdigger advertise that captain Jay has over 50 years experience of fishing in Kona, but we had Brett and Chris both

Great people and they worked hard to get us a fish, even though the waters were super choppy. Got a good looking blue marlin.

Let us tell you about Humdinger. They show high on a Google search because they have been in business forever. But the Legend of Humdinger was the prior Captain, Jeff Foy, a sportfishing legend. But Jeff retired years ago and his Son, Brent, now runs the boat. Brent is a good

Response from Captain Jeff F, Owner at Humdinger Sportfishing
Responded Feb 23, 2020
Let me start by saying I am sorry that the charter did not live up to your expectations, despite the extra efforts that the crew went to stay out an additional hour (at no extra charge) to try to catch you and your spouse a fish. Clearly, your experience doesn’t seem to match the other 252 Glowing 5-star reviews here routinely showering accolades on both Brett and Chris for their hard work, dedicated commitment to ensuring clients both catch fish and have a good time, and how genuinely pleasant and enjoyable they both are. While we appreciate your input on the matter, we tend to agree with the other reviewers here. Let me continue by clarifying some other grossly inaccurate and disparaging remarks you make in your review. 1) We run a drug free operation. Everybody…WITHOUT EXCEPTION…gets drug tested, or they don’t work on the vessel….PERIOD. Your claim to the contrary is both irresponsible and uninformed, not to mention totally uncalled for. 2) Jeff Fay is NOT retired. Captain Jeff Fay had a knee replacement the week of your charter and is recovering nicely. We expect to have Captain Jeff back at the helm this Summer. In the meantime, Captain Brett, his son, who has been Co-captain for about 6 years now, is a very accomplished captain and is competently running the boat while Jeff recovers. 3) Regarding the stairs to the flybridge. This is a common configuration on sportfishing vessels as stairs terminating in the cockpit area substantially reduces the usable area in smaller vessels. Perhaps you are more accustomed to fishing on much larger boats with wider more open cockpits. 4) Yes. You are correct, The Humdinger is a 1958 Vintage Rybovich Sportfisherman in Excellent cosmetic and operational condition. We recently painted the vessel’s interior last year and performed two major dry dock refits recently. It is a boat rich in history. 5) The gear provided is top of the line, tournament grade Shimano 130lb reels, custom rods, and the boat is outfitted with the latest marine electronics. I challenge you to find a more capably provisioned charter boat in Kona. While we never want to see a client go away unhappy, after speaking to the crew, it is apparent they did everything in their power to make the charter both successful and enjoyable, including staying out an additional hour on a 10-hour trip, returning after 6:30 pm that evening. They did so because the bite was very good, and several fish were caught within sight of the boat that day. Thank you for your feedback and once again, we apologize your experience didn’t live up to your expectations.
