About
Join us on an adventure you'll never forget as you snorkel with the various marine wildlife of the Kona coastline. We approach our unique tours “safari” style, meaning we cover vast areas of the coastline in search of marine life aboard our vessel. We believe “the search” is part of the fun and allows nature to deliver the adventure. Together, we can observe and potentially interact with sea turtles, a variety of dolphin species, manta rays, sharks, whales, and locals of Hawaii’s coral reefs.

I highly recommend everyone joining Cam & Kayleigh on their ocean safari if you are interested in potentially snorkeling/freediving with pelagic animals off the Kona coast, enjoying the scenic kona coast, nearshore freediving/snorkeling, all while having amazing customer service onboard Kaimana. We started off the day immediately looking for wildlife and came across a pod of spinner and spotted dolphins right at the harbor channel, but due to their location being at the boat channel, we didn’t get to go into the water with them but I appreciate the crew’s concern over safety for both the guests and wildlife. Then we continue to head out couple miles offshore hoping to run into some more pelagic species. We checked multiple spots but no luck. At the end of the day, wild animals do whatever they are pleased and I also appreciate Cam & Kayleigh going above and beyond to search for them (we cruised further south than they normally would, also ran the trip almost an hour and half longer just to have more time for the guests to enjoy various locations and still hoping for a chance to run into any animals.

We ended up seeing a manta ray and visiting a very cool sea cave that we got to dive in.

They are also offering drinks and snacks onboard that fit with the current Covid regulation (individually wrapped).

I suggest bringing plenty of water for this trip since there’s really no shade for the entire time. Also bring some reef safe sunscreen. Kaimana does provide sunscreen if you forget!

I’d be going out with kaimana religiously just to hopefully get to see the pelagic species on my bucket list and learn about these animals through the very experienced owners.

We booked a private whale watching trip with Kay and Cam. It was beyond spectacular. They are both fully committed to wildlife conservation. Cam is a marine biologists and Kay is an eco tourism professional. Because of their background they are very knowledgeable about the marine mammals, specifically whales, we saw. We were fortunate to come across 3 or 4 whales on a 'heat run'. Basically one female with 2 or 3 males chasing after and trying to impress her. As it should be. ;-) They were able to explain behaviors we were seeing. They got us close, but not too close to respect the distant that must be maintained. The boat is comfy and intimate. Well stocked with snacks and refreshing drinks. We found out that have an adorable dog that can come along with. You just have to request it. We will book again.

My husband and I are frequent travelers to Hawaii (specifically Kona) have gone on countless tours over the years, but I can confidently say Kaimana takes the title for being the best. This small business is a family owned company & is women-operated (heck yeah) and Kayleigh & Morri know their STUFF! They are so passionate about what they do & wanted to give us the best tour possible. The swell was looking rough at first but after checking in with the group, we all decided to continue on and we are so thrilled we did. We found pilot whales, reef sharks, a manta and a WHALE SHARK! Regardless of all of that though, they were so cool to be around, it was a nice boat and I would have enjoyed the tour regardless of the wildlife — which is a big deal. I have been a fan-girl of Kayleigh’s for years now and she’s just as knowledgeable and kind as she seems online. Morri is also a rockstar and basically I’m a fan girl of this entire company now. Thank you for making our honeymoon so rad & giving us the trip of our lives!

Booked the Ocean Safari and had an AMAZING time. Got to do an extended swim with a lounging pod of dozens of pilot whales, saw and swam with innumerable dolphins, and finished with some time on the reef with white tip sharks and beautiful fish. This is one of the best experiences available on the Big Island. I found out about this on the last weekend of my long trip, and would have gone many more times if I had found out about it earlier.

One note: take seasickness medication beforehand. It is a small boat in the open ocean, so you will enjoy yourself much more if you load up on the dramamine.

The crew was awesome and this was the best excursion of my trip to Hawaii! Wildlife can't be guaranteed but they were able to find a manta ray, whales, and dolphins for us! Crew is very knowledgeable about ocean life and are dedicated to ocean conservation and clean up! I will always choose tours with people who really care about the Ocean over tourist traps. Couldn't be more happy with the safari tour. Would definitely book with them again.

INCREDIBLE. Do not miss out on this company. I had the best time and swam with a whale shark!! The guides were so knowledgeable and I leaned a lot about the wildlife behavior. They were very respectful of the wildlife and made me feel very safe. Will absolutely be coming back.

Incredible! This was our second ocean Safari in a week, and it was even better than the first. Pilot whales, manta ray, oceanic white tips, young grey reef sharks… and spinner dolphins from which we maintained a respectful distance. Since this is a Safari, there is no guarantee of sightings, but Kayleigh & Brenna worked hard to find all that we saw. They are also incredibly respectful of the animals, and conscious of both the guests’ and the animals’ safety and comfort. Bravo! When we return, we will look forward to further trips with you. Thank you.

There's a lot to like about this experience, so we definitely suggest doing it.

The boat is great and the staff clearly care about their mission. And when you have their attention, they're super friendly and make sure you have a great experience.

And they don't control the wildlife, so you can't really judge them on this. But for us, on our trip, the sightings were great! You may not be so lucky, but that's not their fault...they do their best to ensure you see as much as possible.

So why just a 4* rating? Honestly, I think it was just unlucky timing. On our tour there was some researcher with a big Instagram following and his significant other there. The staff spent a ton of time talking to them and not with us, it was clear they were important or something. Which I understand. But it did reduce the time and attention we got from the staff, which is a bummer because they really did seem like wonderful and fun people. They also had very strict rules about how you are supposed to act in the water, which is amazing because it ensures everyone gets a good experience while respecting the animals...but for some reason this researcher didn't have to follow the same rules, so often we'd be by the guide doing what we're supposed to, and the researcher would be plowing ahead going to within inches of the animal to get great photos. This would scare the animals away from us, and in turn we'd get great photos of the back of the researcher and not much more.

Again, despite that, we still gave this a 4* because we really do think we just happened to go on the wrong day and got unlucky. Without this one issue, it would've quite clearly been a 5* experience. So we suggest you do this tour!

The best experience on the big island. This small family owned business is so friendly, professional, and experienced. They know the animals so well which makes for an amazing experience for their guests. We saw manta rays, octopus, turtles, multiple kinds of dolphin, a massive tuna jumping out of the water, and even got to swim with a huge oceanic white tip shark. I’ve never seen so much wildlife or been so comfortable in the water with a shark! We’ll be returning to the big island just to do this tour again.
