My family of 7 took the Sea Cave Kayaking/Cliff Jumping/Snorkeling tour today. We were really looking forward to this experience. The wind/weather this morning unfortunately caused larger waves to be breaking along the coast where the sea cave and cliff jumping was scheduled. The waves also made snorkeling in the planned location too dangerous.

Our guides, Haol’Oli (apologies for misspelling) aka Happy and Brady were excellent. They told us about the sea conditions and the possibility that we might not be able to do some of the planned activities.

The kayaking was a 2.5 mile round trip journey. The wind and the waves made the paddling challenging, but still safe.

One couple in our party capsized their kayak as we approached the sea cave. Happy and Brady were able to help them get back into the kayak using the methods they had taught us early in our tour. Happy’s skill level was on display and was impressive in getting the couple back on board their kayak.

Sadly, the couple continued to tip over (3 or 4 more times). They were probably in their 60s and the lady became too exhausted to safely continue trying to re-board. Happy was able to summon a passing boat to return the couple safely to the dock.

Brady ended up helping some cliff jumpers (who had traveled to the sea cave by land) and were caught out in the surf get safely to shore.

The kindness of the boater and also Brady assisting the other people were two examples of helping others that we don’t always get to see in our day to day lives.

Once we returned to the relatively calm waters of the bay, we stopped for some snorkeling near the dock. While I am sure it was not the experience we would have had in the original location, it was still a lot of fun and Happy shared some good advice with me about how to improve my technique with fins/flippers.

My kids learned four valuable lessons from our experience. 1. Stay physically fit (so you can help yourself in challenging situations. 2. Be honest. (I am sure at least one member of the party that struggled either didn’t read or clicked through anyway regarding weight limits of 250 pounds when signing up for the trip. Exceeding the weight limits on the kayak likely contributed to the capsizing.). 3. Respect the ocean (and all of Mother Nature for that matter). 4. Help others (we got to see first hand the talent and skill of Happy and Brady in getting the party back on the kayaks and also summoning additional help when needed. These gentlemen also helped the young cliff jumpers who were in distress.

Overall, Happy and Brady were friendly, knowledgeable, and humble in trying to o give us a great experience. I appreciated their efforts to put the safety and well-being of others as a priority. Although our adventure was hampered by the weather and some of the challenges experienced by people in our group, I cannot recommend these gentlemen highly enough. I am impressed.

We've enjoyed this sea cave tour with Ocean Safaris at least three times now; it's an easy way for us to kayak and snorkel with experts who will keep us safe at an affordable price.

I like kayaking in the ocean, and since we had a great group of folks with kayaking experience we made it to the sea cave faster than previous trips. This meant we had at least an hour to snorkel in the area with lots of beautiful fish. This was a huge benefit over our trip to Kealakekua Bay (aka Captain Cook), which has become so overrun by tourists its hard to enjoy the bay unless you go super early in the morning. I like taking my time to swim with fish without worrying about being kicked by a touristy snorkeler.

Caeland was a relatively new guide yet did a great job keeping us together, having fun, and taking good pictures.

We booked the early riser dolphin/whale tour last minute. The parking directions on their website were a little confusing but we arrived on time with the instructor ready to go. We ended up being the only two that morning so we got a private tour. This made the excursion more personalized to what we were interested in doing and seeing. It also made the safety instructions go quickly and hearing the instructor out on the water easy. He talked about the history and geography of the island and perhaps because our group was so small he spoke about his personal life a little more than wanted. It was a bit stormy so we didn’t see any dolphins or whales but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. We spent some time snorkeling and saw some really cool coral reef and fish. Thank you!

We had an amazing time with Devin. We were lucky enough to see a large number of dolphins, many of which decided to show off for us be jumping out of the water and illustrating why they're called 'spinner dolphins'. Although your mileage may vary, I enthusiastically recommend this trip.

This was a fantastic tour! Our family of 6 had a total blast! We have range in age from 15 to 53 and have very varying fitness levels. :-) We specifically chose one strong member of our family to be in the back and one "less strong" (we lost the arm wrestling competitions by a lot) person to be in the front. This worked out perfectly! The day we went the sea was high and the waves were strong so it was a work out on the way out to the sea cave. However, the guides, Jasmine, Jared, and Buddy were all absolutely wonderful. They knew what they were doing and how to do it. I felt completely safe in their care. The cave was super cool even though the waves that day made it sort of tricky. One of the other kayaks in our group overturned at the mouth of the cave and Jasmine and Buddy were right there to make sure the girls in the kayak got to safety right away. I cannot say enough about how professional and wonderful the guides were. The trip back was a lot easier with the wind at our back. We stopped closed to the port for a little snorkel. The sea life there was abundant and varied. We had paid $100 each for a snorkeling trip on another island but this one was (in my opinion) "No Ka Oi" (the best)! The snack was perfect and delicious (and even had gluten free options for me :-) ). I highly recommend this trip for families with older kids. It would have been hard when my kids were little but now that they are all taller and stronger than me, it was so much fun! Thank you Jasmine, Jared, and Buddy for an unforgettable adventure!

We booked our tour for the day prior and unfortunately there were not more than 4 people that booked so our tour was canceled. We went to the location that morning and didn’t see anyone, we called and found that the tour was canceled. They said we should have received an email, we did, but it was received at 2:50AM! Our bad for not checking prior. Luckily we were staying at the Outrigger, right next to the meeting point.

We went out the next day instead. We had such a great, friendly and accommodating guide! Jasmine was a joy and delightful! Brent was nice as well! Jasmine shared tons of information and facts about the area we were kayaking. We hoped to see sea turtles and dolphins, but nature had other plans. The waves were choppy, but everyone on our tour had such positive attitudes and spirits. We surely made the best of it and it was a fantastic way to start the day, on the water. Some got to enjoy some snorkeling in a couple of places, which worked out great! I was able to give my arms a break hahah. I would definitely recommend them and their tours. If we come back, this would be a tour we’d book again! Thank you to our gracious host!

We booked the Keahou Bay Sea Cave tour and it was fantastic! The day before, they called us and told us that a swell may be coming in and we may not be able to do everything like entering the caves and cliff diving, but we decided to keep our reservation. Day of, everyone cancelled except for me and my friend and we ended up with a private tour which was great! Our tour guide was nice and kept us entertained the whole time with stories and showed us a lot of cool places along the bay. We were lucky to be able to enter the caves, as well as seeing the tide pools and cliff diving. We even had time to snorkel. On our way back, we encountered some dolphins, swimming pass us in close proximity! I'm so glad we kept our reservation and did not cancel. This was by far one of the best excursion we did on big island. Will definitely recommend, because even if you weren't able to do the sea caves and cliff diving, just kayaking along the bay was a sight to see.

Such an amazing tour and experience! Could not recommend our tour guide Trevor and Ocean Safaris Kayak Tours enough! Trevor was such a great guide, who made the whole experience very memorable. He allowed us to make a quick exit of our kayak to swim just meters away from a large group of dolphins, truely unforgettable. We conquered our fears of cliff jumping, explored a cave, snorkelled some amazing locations and even discovered some areas only known by locals.

Trevor had so much knowledge, was able to answer all our questions, and even provide recommendations of things we should do on our next trip to the Big Island. His dog Rain joining the tour was also an added bonus! Can’t thank Trevor and Devin (the manager) enough for providing us with the highlight of our Hawaiian adventure! Looking forward to coming back when we next return :)

Our family is visiting Kona for the first time. We thought it would be fun to do something memorable on NYE so we booked the Kayak Cave and Cliff Jumping adventure. Unfortunately, seas were angry and did not permit a stop at shore or ability to explore the caves. But it did not stop our family from having a great time. Our guide was excellent. We did manage some snorkel time and other than one other guest, we essentially had the tour guide to ourselves!
Only recommendation (as we do a lot of kayaking at home) would be to have small dry bags clipped to each kayak to put the few small things in that were brought along so they don't tip out when jumping out for snorkeling.

We had a great time on the Sea Caves tour with guides Brady and Hauʻoli. Unfortunately the sea was too rough for us to kayak into the cave, but it was still fun to watch the guides cliff jumping (flipping!). Our kids also cliff jumped, a very memorable experience they will never forget. No one brought snorkeling gear, so we stopped for a short swim and snack at the end. Overall great trip and one of the highlights of our vacation!
