I was vacationing on my own on the Big Island, and decided to do a dinner cruise, mostly just to get out on the water. I booked the trip online, then visited the Body Glove office to sort out parking (I needed handicap-accessible parking). They could not have been more helpful; told me exactly what I needed to do (which was simple), and also let the dock employees know to expect me.
I parked very close to the ship, which was unloading passengers from a snorkel trip when I arrived. I was afraid it would take a while to switch from snorkel mode to dinner mode, but they were surprisingly quick about it.
Each adult >21 received a coupon for a free cocktail, as they boarded. I don't drink alcohol; I could have ordered a virgin pina colada (or whatever), but I was happy with water, so I gave my drink ticket away to someone at my table. After that first freebie, cocktails seemed pretty reasonably priced, given the situation; I think they were $8 or $9.
Every detail of the actual cruise was very well executed. A woman gave historical information about the places we went past, and a man played the guitar, with electronic rhythm accompaniment. They performed one or two songs together, as well. Both were good at their jobs.
Dinner was surprisingly tasty. First, they handed out small packets of macadamia nuts, and then, a fresh green salad. The main course was some sort of ribs (beef ribs, I think - not particularly flavorful), a delicious coconut curry (no meat), some rice and a roll. Dessert was cheesecake, which was still partially frozen, but quite nice nonetheless.
The historical narration was given on our way south to Kealakekua Bay, interspersed with live music. When we got to the bay (the farthest point), we had a decent look at the Captain Cook monument, then hung around in the bay for a bit before we headed back north to the Kona dock. During the trip back, the musician took requests.
We were lucky enough to see some spinner dolphins (at least, those on the starboard side could see them). And some sea birds sensed the opportunities presented by a dinner cruise, and hung out on/around the boat for about half an hour.
We enjoyed a nice sunset.
Disembarking was very smooth and efficient.
This was a class act all the way.
