The prices on rentals are great relative to what we saw elsewhere, but the local knowledge you get is even better. It was great to bounce ideas and get great advice. Very friendly and eager to share his insight.

Boss Frogs was totally great and pretty inexpensive. I was pretty put off by their ads, which seemed pretty aggressive and cheesy, but the place itself was great and our gear worked out really well. Also.. We loved GUY! He was the best. And now that we are back on the main land, we miss him. We went back to talk with him a few times about various ideas and adventures we wanted to go on, and he was really happy to advise and help us plan. So awesome!

This shop is conveniently located on Ali'i drive in the tourist area of Kailua Kona. They advertise snorkeling equipment rental by the day. The big sign out front said 'snorkeling sets $5.00 / day' Now THAT is a great price so I went in with my wife and signed up for two sets for a full day. "That will be twenty five dollars," the really nice man behind the counter said as he swiped my credit card. "How did it get to $25.00 when the sign says $5.00 per day?" "Oh, it is 12.50/day for the good equipment." "And I can get the bad equipment for $5.00?" "It's not bad, just old style like Jacque Cousteau. . and they lowered the price to $1.50/day" "Old stuff $1.50 and new stuff $12.50? We'll take the new stuff." I think almost every one will choose the new stuff. It's good gear. The old stuff is priced so low that no one is going to really believe it's okay. So go in with your eyes open, be clear on the pricing. Pick the stuff you prefer. Please be sure to give me a 'helpful' vote if you find this review useful.
