Took the free tour of the Thunder Mountain coffee plantation. What a nice, informative overview of the Kona coffee agriculture and process. Kona coffee seems to be such an artisan process; plantations owned and run by 2nd and 3rd generation families who take pride in their product. Didn't realize how small and defined the area was for growing Kona coffee.... More

This was our first ever trip to a coffee farm. The free tour was so informative! It was really neat to see the process of how it goes from the tree to the cup. It was also nice that they had little coffee and tea samples. And we loved the kitty cats on the property! There were chickens, too:)

Me and my Husband stopped here on our honeymoon because I happen to be a coffee addict. As a barista that works at a coffee roasting company back home, I was extremely excited. Arriving at the farm in the afternoon, we were greeted by chickens and cuddly farm cats. But, there were no employees or guest. We sat down and... More

It rained during our tour, and that didn't matter. This is a basic tour that describes the trees, the cherries, the picking, the milling, the grading separation, the roasting, etc. You will learn about coffee grades, levels of roasting, and Kona coffee versus Kona blend. You can sample the coffee (and the tea!) and there is a small gift shop... More

Worth a visit especially if you want to purchase some fresh, premium coffee. I will never think of Hawaii without thinking of this coffee!

We took the free tour and loved it. The tour took about 20-30 minutes, and you are invited to sample coffee, tea, and chocolates made at the plantation! Make sure to check out the gift shop, the products are great and you feel good supporting organic businesses. Our guide, Emily, was fantastic!!! She was very knowledgeable, passionate and enthusiastic about... More

Mountain Thunder's basic coffee roasting tour is fun, fast and free... and available on Sundays. The upcountry environs of the Hao Street location are a cool and refreshing break from the sunny and sometimes overheated Kialua-Kona area. We definitely got the sense that this was not some ultra-slick commercialized tourist trap since our tour was almost sidetracked by our guide... More

We had visited & completed the tour 2 years ago and loved the coffee so we went back this visit to buy some to take home direct from the source. The tour is interesting and informative and you can sample a couple of coffee roasts as well as their tea. We love the coffee and have ordered it online in... More

We signed up for the VIP tour rather than the free tour. We were able to see other parts of the farm, spend more time in the facility, and got to roast our own packages of coffee. This tour includes lunch, which was good (but wasn't a highlight of the tour). Be sure to wear walking/hiking shoes for this tour.

My husband and I did the coffee roasting tour. While we waiting for our tour to start we enjoyed complementary coffee. There was also Hawaiian tea to sample. The first part of the tour we attended the "free tour" for 30 minutes. We learned about the coffee cherry all the way to the roasting process. The 2nd portion of our... More
