I found Pepe on Tripadvisor and booked a private trip of KONA. We were two families with 4 adults and 3 kids (5,10 and 12 years of age) on Cruise.
We wanted to see as much of the BIG Island and Pepe worked with me on figuring out the best Itinerary we could.
He brought a clean vehicle (EXPEDITION ) that was big enough and comfortable for our party. We started our tour with travelling south towards South of KONA and Honaunau Bay.
We loved KONA town and the whole the vibe of KONA and surroundings, Honaunau bay (and wish had more time available to spend there) and several other spots on the way to KONA Coast. We traded in snorkeling at Honaunau bay for traveling north to Kohala Coast and Polulu Valley. Stopped at KONA Coffee shop and tried the KONA coffee and RUM Cake, both delicious
We were trying to fit in a lot for the day and Pepe did an awesome job at keeping track of the time and kept us informed of the time to make sure we don’t miss out on the top spots we wanted to see.
After KONA Coast, we headed to KOHALA coast (what a contrast of scenery) onwards to countryside, Hawi town and then onwards to Polulu Valley lookout (A MUST if you have time ). What a SPOT I must say.
Pepe was able to keep us on time and we spent some time at HAPUNA beach on the way back to KONA as well. Pepe suggested we spend time at Hapuna and we sure loved it.
I am a drone enthusiast and have some amazing footage of the Polulu valley, Hapuna beach and Hoaunau Bay.
After seeing all of the above on island, Pepe was able to get us back to Port to catch our tender (with tenders to spare) for our Cruise. We did not feel stressed at all the whole time we were with Pepe
Pepe is very knowledgeable of the area and was able to answer our Qs about the island.
I would use services of Pepe again when in BIG Island and look forward to the day when we return and have more leisure time to spend on the island.

Upon arriving at the cruise ship we were on, I discovered I had forgot to pack one of my medications. When we were in cell phone range, I called my mail order pharmacy and they were able to order a supply of my missing meds to a CVS pharmacy in Kailua-Kona about 1.5 miles from the pier. When we got to the pier, I didn't know how we were going to get there and while I was discussing it with my wife about taking a cab or walking, Nixi from Pepe & Nixi tours came up to me and offered to take us to the pharmacy on their way to lunch. I was so grateful that they were willing to do that for us. We rode in a beautiful black van, got my prescription from the pharmacy, then we took a cab to get back to the pier and were able to continue our shopping trip on the big island. Many thanks to Pepe & Nixi as they were truly "paying it forward."
When we come back to this area, I will definitely contact Pepe & Nixi about a tour.

Thanks so much for the compliment. We were more than excited to add 2 new people to our Ohana, even if just for a few minutes. We hope you enjoyed your time in Kona. Can't wait for you to return and us spending more time with both of you!!!!

We stopped on Kona on our Hawaiian cruise. Instead of a ship planned excursion we hired our own guide. We had a great tour around Kona with Pepe & Nixi! We went to the Painted church, but didn't have enough time at the sanctuary National Park. Felt rushed out of there after we had stopped at less interesting sites. Oh well it was cheap.

Four of us booked a private tour to begin at 2pm where we were told we would see multiple sites including the valley and waterfalls. We were dropped off to look at the king's site, then taken to a church. The priest was not there to provide information. Pepe briefly filled in. We were taken to a Kona coffee store. I started watching the film, when I was told we had to leave. We were then taken back to the hotel to pick up two other guests. We waited almost a half hour. Then we were taken to the observatory to drop them off. This took over an hour. By then the sun had gone down. As Pepe was driving us, we asked if we were going to be able to see the waterfalls. He said he thought so. It was totally dark and after 7pm. We said to take us back to the hotel. He said no, we had to go back to the observatory to pick up the other guests. This took another hour. Then, in the dark, we drove back to the hotel, arriving at about 9pm. This "tour" cost us $125 each. It was very unsatisfactory and not worth the cost.

I apologize that you feel you had a bad experience. Unfortunately we are unable to always predict the weather here on the Big Island, especially over where the waterfalls are located. We always stay positive but the rain made it impossible to make it to the waterfalls. We added the observatory to your tour in order to make up for the waterfalls. Logistically we picked up the other guests, who had booked prior to you, as we came to their location. Looking on our meter, our wait time was 10 minutes. But I'm sure it felt longer to you since you had your own agenda you were looking forward too.We did not return to pick them up.
Because of the distance from the coffee mill to the next stop it was pertenant to get back on the road. I apologize if you felt rushed. Our travel times here on the island take longer than in other places.
Our goal was to give you a complete tour and since we had to cancel the waterfalls due to rain, we gave a substantial reduction in the price of your tour.
We still maintain an Aloha spirit and hope you will give us a second try next time you are on the island.

We had a wonderful informative morning trip with Pepe and Nixi. We saw them at the port and decided to use them. We were also lucky that there was just one other (very nice couple) in our party. Their vehicle was new, comfortable and clean. We had a great tour of the area with Pepe driving and Nixi commentating ( but we were all really chatting like old friends). After the tour we had our photos taken and hugged and parted as new friends.
I thoroughly recommend using this couple. They do lots of other tours so it is worth getting in touch. My wife and I had a great time and saw stunning scenery. Thank you both!

We wanted to see the active lava and we saw lava! Pepe&Nixi picked us up from our hotel near Kona and took us across the island to where the active lava flow is. They made sure that we had bikes to get out to where the lava was, waited for us to bike out and see the lava for as long as we wanted. We were never hurried. Then we had a ride back to our hotel. So sweet and friendly! We learned a lot about the island along the way. We really enjoyed our time!

It was a great time getting to know the two of you. Thanks also for taking our advise on using bikes to get to the lava. Our goal is for our guests not to feel rushed. Glad you felt that. Hope to see you again next time you make it to the Big Island. Aloha!!!!

They are a fantastic couple who is very enthusiastic about what they do. Unfortunately our tour was met with bad weather, we did however braved the storm to get to the lava flow although it was already quite late. While they provided us with torches and flash lights, the 4 of us hiked to the flow. It was quite an experience really, lit by the moon, the bath was flanked by cool black lava on either side. We walked and walked until the distant glow came approaches. Alas, the area was roped off as the ledge has grown to a size when it is threatening to break off into the ocean, spraying up lava in the process. But we got close enough for a few decent pictures. We also did a bit of a hike into the lava field on the side hoping to see the flow itself, that proved to much of a task at 22:30 (terrain was difficult to navigate, worse in the dark)...
Would highly recommend renting the 10USD/hr bike! But it was an altogether surreal experience albeit tiresome. Pepe drove us back to our respective hotels through the same storm that severely delayed our trip. Arrived at 2 am (tour commenced at 16:30). What an adventure!

Thank you for your review. We are so glad you and the others had a great time. And yes, welcome to the weather here on the Big Island. Most people do not realize it is a trek to get to the lava flow but everyone says how it is worth it in the end. Thanks for the shout out on renting bikes. We have partnered with one of the bike rentals to make the distance to the lava flow even more enjoyable. Hope to see you again next time you are here! Aloha!!!!

Pepe & Nixi tours are the best. We went on a tour to the observatory one evening during our stay in Hawaii with our 5 kids using Pepe & Nixi tours. We had a great time. They are very organized, caring and will provide you and your family with the best tour on the island. We will definitely be going back again. They offer many tours and will provide you with the best Hawaiian experience during your stay. Thank you Pepe & Nixi for a great time.

Through Pepe & Nixi Tours, we rented a Harley Davidson and rode across the Island towards Hilo. The ride was fantastic and the scenery gorgeous. This tour company is all you need to organize your fun on the Big Island of Hawaii....Contact them, Perry and Nancy. You will not regret it. When will you ever get to do this again????
