The ecomuseum is located in the heart of the old city of Vodnjan in an old house, which the city of Vodnjan gave to this group of local enthusiasts to make a ecomuseum. It has an old kitchen with all the "equipment" as their grandparents and grand-grandparents lived.
They will show you around and guide you thought this old house. If you became their member (day membership 5€, summer 15€, etc..), which I recommend- in this way you support them - you can taste their products and even take some with you...totally worth a visit.

We as University of Gastronomic Sciences were really lucky to spend some time in this beautiful and inspiring environment such as the didactic farm ( a great and ambitious project involving disabled kids) and the Ecomuseum, which we found out is managed by some young and passionate people, who should really get more praise for what they do socially and in general for Istria. I’m really glad i got to know these people and their amazing products like wine, acquavite, wild asparagus and any kind of vegetables, i defitevly hope to come back one day and maybe help them out somehow! Everybody passing in these areas should really stop by and check out the museum and have a chat with these amazing and inspiring people. Much love!

A very nice experience, we visited only by coincidence. A small, cosy and interesting museum, with enthusiastic guide! You get to see and learn a lot about everyday life in earlier times. Really worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood!

During our one week stay in Istria we also visited Vodnjan on a rainy day. While we intended to go and see the mummies we were told that the priest was only able to see us an hour later. The tourism office recommended us to first go and meet the people of the eco museum which was next door on the main square. We were welcomed by Rob/Robbi/Robin(?), a well educated, passionate and very responsive young man who shared the ins and outs of the museum house and its 200 year history. We had a very pleasant one-on-one talk and learned a lot about Istria. We really recommend you to go and see him!

Hi Olaf, Thank you for the kind words. We are pleased that the visit was educative and that you spent a good time with our guides. In the House of traditions we have the passion for what we do. and we like to share it with our visitors. The Ecomuseum is a small house rich in culture and traditions that we cherish and preserve in the modern world. We hope to see you again, IStrian de Dignan-Ecomuseum

While visiting the region of Istria i end up to discover the bautifull town of Vodnjan-Dignano. I stayed for a few days and end up visiting this small but big museum.

They do an amazing job in preserving the traditions of the town and the guides are super enthusiastic.
I will for sure repeat the visit.

We found the Eco-museum online and included it in our self-driving tour. The young man originally from Sicily gave us a great tour of the old traditional Istrian house and the local square. They have lots of children's activities usually although not that day. We got to taste homemade brandy and got an apple for the road. It was great and off the beaten track if you are looking for some quieter places to visit. There is a donation jar but no charge for visiting the site.

Had a tour of the three rooms by a friendly Italian chap. The house is no grand home of local Nobility but rather a traditional Istrian working home with various artefacts from the local area. He gave us a taste of the wine they make too! Free entry with donations welcome.

We stumbled upon this small museum on a trip to Vodnjan. It is a recreation of an old Croatian home by a group of local enthusiasts trying to preserve some of the old ways. It is full of bits and pieces donated by locals. They were friendly and keen to tell us all about the place, especially how they produced their own wine and grappa in the traditional way. We got to taste both!
Well worth a visit.

We’ve visited ecomuseum and the garden project at school in Dignano with a group from the university of gastronomic sciences (UNISG). This amazing project has as a main goal to valorize this nice little town and to teach to the children about good food, sustainability and the importance of a community.
People are very passionate and interesting!

I was here years ago on their first day of opening. Their love and passion is allover the place. You can see how people from Dignano- Vodnjan lived here 100of years ago and also the past 60 years.
