This olive oil tasting was amazing - the very best oil and the very best experience we had in visiting a few different producers. The staff was so welcoming and full of information about the oils, the process, and the industry, especially Bosko, whose passion shines through. The oil was also several cuts above the other producers we tasted. We will be back the next time we are in Istria and recommend this tasting to everyone.

Seriously one of of the best experiences we had while visiting Rovinj!! We were interested better understanding the details of fine olive oil production and Boško provided everything we wanted and more! He was so knowledgeable about the history and tradition of olive oil craft. We study wine in the WSET and he was able to draw amazing similarities and comparisons between the production processes. Chiavalon’s artisanal products highlight all the characteristics in great olive oil: notes of fresh grass, green apples, and hints of lingering spice. The space itself is amazing to host everything from small couples to whole families. This is definitely one experience to not miss out on!

Such a interresting and funny excursion! I really enjoeyd explanation about production of the one of the 15 best producers of olive oil on the world! Bosco was absolutely profesional and friendly, and smiling all the time. He is very good saller :D I could taste all the types of oils, and it was absolutely interresting. I didnt know how to recognize good extra virgin oil from the fake extra virgin oil in the markets. Now i know ;) I really recommend this short and nice excursion.

We visited Chiavalon because we were staying close by and were very curious about the olive oil industry in the area. We did not know what to expect but are so pleased we did. We will be being much more thoughtful about the oil we buy and it’s ingredients now we know so much more about it!
We were shown the machines that are used to extract and process the oil and learned about how methods have changed over time and why. We then did the olive oil tasting and it was really fascinating.
Boško was our guide and was very informative, passionate and fun. He was also extremely kind with our children (11, 9 and 6), answering my 6 year old’s questions patiently.
The description of the food that is provided after the tasting as a “snack” does it a disservice. Gorgeous platters of cheese, meats, vegetables and bread with local wine. It was delicious.
All in all a really interesting and tasty family friendly experience. Thank you!

Visiting Chiavalon’s olive oil plantation was a very enlightening experience. Now I know what we are missing in America.
Our host, Boska, was a passionate and knowledgeable docent. He exuded his love of the product, the process and the need to educate the world about the essence of quality olive oil.
We had a thorough tour of the production facility followed by a tutorial on tasting and identifying genuine olive oil. We then enjoyed trays of cheeses, vegetables and meats accompanied with the variety of olive oils Chiavalon produces.
All in all, it was an awesome experience that I highly recommend. Me and my family came away from the experience with a great appreciation for real olive oil and some high quality products to bring back to America.

What a lovely experience. Boško was a wonderful guide and taught us more than we could ever imagine about extra virgin olive oil and the industry. Very knowledgeable and friendly he began by explaining the interesting story behind the Chiavalon family and how they came to be one of the finest producers of pure extra virgin olive oil. Next Boško showed us all of the equipment used in the oil making process. Such care and fine attention to detail. We finished with tasting each of the 7 oils and then a delicious assortment of “snacks” - bread, cheese, fresh tomatoes, arugula, salami, tomato sauce and bacon to see how the olive oil enhances each bit of food. Make sure to checkout there thoughtful store.I would have bought more if I had more room in my suitcase. Good news is that the recently secured a distributor (Drusk) in Chicago so I look forward to buying more back in the states.

Very pleasant staff and extremely nice to be greeted by Tedi one of the brothers that owns and runs the place.
We where given a really nice tour by our enthusiastic guide who told us everything from A-Z on making olive oil and after learned us us how to distinguish real extra virgin oil from other oils (fake virgin oils).
Overall just a really nice couple of hours we spent there together with our children, where in particular the oldest one enjoyed it the most (10, 12 and 15).
Really good guide

Upon the advice of our hotel, we stopped at Chiavalon for an olive oil testing and we are beyond happy that we did. Our oil sommelier (there should be a word for this!) guided us through a flight of oils, each one with different notes and tastes. Not only was the olive oil excellent, we learned so much about about how to taste and enjoy them.. Her knowledge was impressive and her enthusiasm contagious. Try to get there early--seems like it is a well visited spot (and for good reason!)

Chiavalon is a boutique production of extra virgin olive oil. YOu will get a lot of useful information about extra virgin cold pressed olive oil. They use some unique methods suitable for small production. We tasted different extra virgin oils with some specifics. We discover something new that totally changes our perception of olive oil. From now on we will buy olive oil only from producers. BR Verica

In September 2018, our tour (with food) cost 170kn per person - about $25 each. Our hour-long visit to the Chiavalon Estate started with an introduction to organic olive oil production in Istria as we stood outside in the family's original olive grove. For the guided tasting, we moved indoors to learn how to recognize a true extra virgin olive oil, and about the fake products on the market today. We opted for the the tour with snacks included, and were treated to local wine, and homemade bread, salami, cheeses, and tomato sauce - all delicious and enough food to count as our lunch for the day. It was a wonderful experience, and we bought a large bottle of "ex Albis" EVOO to use at home as well as several small bottles to give as souvenirs. It is easy to book through their website.

Hi, we will be staying probably in Rovinj, next year in June 2019. We would like to know how to get from the city to you ( note that we won't be driving at all, is there a bus service or tours that will take us to your place? Do we need to book the visit in advance?)
We will appreciate any information that will help us reach your place from Rovinj.
Have a wonderful day

Hi,
Thank you for your interest for our farm. From Rovinj you can reach us with taxi, Uber or with bus. The number of busses that are traveling from Rovinj through Vodnjan depends of the season and are changing monthly so the best is to check once you are in Rovinj or just before your arrival. You can book the tour in advance just saying us the date and then we can agree the timing. Pls send us all info by e-mail visit@chiavalon.hr.
Thank you!
All the best from Istria.

Hi Linda,
We also visited Chiavalon Olive oil in Vodnjan. We didn't get any meats, cheeses or wine, but we were very happy and satisfied with just the olive oil tasting, to the point where we've been ordering their stuff online when we got back to the states. The whole presentation was about 45-50 minutes, during which you learn a lot about the process and what it takes to extract a truly pure authentic olive oil and what to look for during the taste test. You then can purchase their product/s. Hope this helps.
