Very nice monument going down from the main street of Rousse towards the River port. Very good spot. You have to combine this with the museum of Baba Tonka.

Many people, walking up Boulevard Slavyanski (leading from the Anna Palace Hotel and the river to Alexandrovska and Freedom Square), will be curious about the statue in the middle of the road of a strikingly good-looking, very young man holding a pistol. This is Angel Kanchev, revolutionary hero of the Bulgarian struggle for freedom from the Ottomans, who, rather than be captured, took his own life very near this spot. He was only 22. Ruse University is also named after Angel Kanchev. And a few yards up the same street you can see the first floor flat where the great writer and Nobel prize-winner Elias Canetti spent his childhood. It isn't possible to go in (at any rate, it wasn't when I was there), but there's a plaque outside.
