Kordopulovata kashta is the biggest house of the Bulgarian Renaissance and was the home of a wealthy merchant who was trading in wine with many European countries of that time. Very interesting is the fact that the merchant himself owned very little vineyards. He used to buy grapes from the people fromt the nearby villages.
The size of the house is very impressive - several very big (I may say huge) rooms, winter terrace, summer terrace, sauna?! and hiding place that was frequently used by Yane Sandanski, a famous Bulgarian revolutionary. Each room has an information board in Bulgarian, Russian and English but the guest room was of a particular interest to me. 90 square meters big (bigger than most of the apartments in Bulgaria nowadays), with 24 windows arranged in 2 tiers of 12 so that during every hour of the day the sun beams enter the room through one of the windows.
Another mind-blowing feature of the house is the enormous wine cellar, great part of which (the tunnels) was dug under the hill adjacent to the house and it took 12 years! About 250-300 tons! of wine could be stored in the cellar and now there are barrels with capacity of 2-3 tons. You can have wine tasting there (3,4 or 5 kinds of wine) but you pay extra for it about 7 to 9 € pp.
Kordopulovata Kashta is definitely a must-see when you come to the beautiful, small town of Melnik. It is located on the farther side of the town and you will have to walk through the whole town but the stroll is worth it.

This was a very interesting visit. The well maintained house of kordopoulos family displays a blend of cultures (Greek, Turkish and Bulgarian), the cellar is enormous and the organic wine we tried was really good (maybe the best in Melnik)

This house is an inspiring and fresh-looking historical place that you won't expect to see in this region. It's in relatively good condition, there's a wine tasting organized for the visitors. The best thing for me was the mixture of styles and how natural it looks.
This place is surely a treasure for those who are keen on history, design and art.

It is located at the end of the village, and is indeed a big house, quite impressive while seeing from below. Did not go inside.

The house is really nice, the informations of each room are translated in English (big plus). But the master piece of the visit is the cave dug in the mountain.
But don’t expect wine degustation with some information given, they only gave you to taste if you want to buy after. (Better to go to the wine museum if you want a real discussion around the wine).

Very good possibility to feel and know about the history (back to the 1754), life and the tragical finish of this greek trader family.
Interesting structure of the building with old furniture by very good condition.

This 200-year traditional old house since 1800s is truly a well preserved old Bulgarian house with impressive murals and architecture and definitely the wine cellar for wine tasting experience, a must while you are in Melnik. Come early before 6pm even its official closing time is 6.30pm as the lady in charge for the house often close the door 1 hour before the official closing time.

Very interesting house well worth the small admission fee which includes wine tasting. Beautiful rooms with good explanations in three languages. Fab views and the great rose wine tops off the visit.
