Free cable car and other discounts if you get the Wildschonau card. Beautiful area with stunning views from the top.

On the plus side, the village is one of three pretty villages in the valley. Its also reasonable value, unusual these days for skiing holidays. The demographics seem to attract older couples and families with small children which suits the very limited beginner blue runs in the village. 18-30 clients need not apply as there is little or nothing to do after skiing finishes. Family run hotels cater for most clients.
One problem to consider is simply that the village has limited altitude. Even at the top of the gondola lift it is less than 2000m. So its a gamble in these days of global warming that snow might be limited and rain might be prevalent in the village.
However my main issue is with the piste grading system for Niederau runs. The resort advertises that it is perfect for beginners and improvers. I agree with the first statement but totally disagree with the last.
The fact is that the blue runs in the village should be re-classified as green as they are both basic and flat. However, the real problem is with the red runs from the top down to the village. Any 'improver' would freak at the difficulty and gradients. Many should be reclassified as black runs. I took this up with a hotel owner who agreed but said 'it would put people off coming!'
So, beginner or family with young children? Good choice as long as you are lucky with the weather.
Improver, second time skier? Choose somewhere better.

It's not the highest peak and, given this, the views are amazing. Fabulous that it is included with the guest card in the summer.

With the Wildschönau Card given to us by our hotel, we were able to use the cable car for free. It is a short scenic ride up. At the top you can have a meal at the Markbachjochalm, hike on the various paths, or watch the paragliders. Enjoy the fresh air and the views and walk down to the village of Niederau, or sit back and take the cable car down.

Just back from a weeks holiday to this area and used this cable car several times
This lift up to the mountain top is free with your Wildschönau card.
Lovely journey up on the gondola, overlooking the whole area, with some stunning views
A great place to watch all the paragliders on a nice day, with loads of mountain walks and a few mountain alms.
A must for anyone visiting the area

Use it several times each visit. It’s free with the summer card issued by hotels. Clean toilets at the base station. Excellent views riding up in the gondola and at the top. Nice walk over toward the cheese farm and beyond.

If you come with children, for few days its ok area. Down the hill are nice slopes for kids, red and black slopes are fast enough for the adults. Joch hütte up the hill is my most favourite place:)

OK - we had super weather and an excellent price with Shearings Holidays but we just loved this small town / big village of Niederau and used our free cable car ticket to go up this 1500 mt mountain 3 times - what a delight; superb views, well sign-posted walks, goats to feed, great coffee / food in cafes up the top, pretty little church, watch paragliders jumping off the summit, polite, lovely local people and visitors. Would love to return!

Great walks start from here, at the top of the cable car. Many have some really steep bits, so be careful when planning your route!
